like turreto said

"For those 10 seconds or more, i'm free" or whatever he said

more like

"for those 14 seconds or more, nothing else matters, only the pounding of my heart in tune with my rpm, the sound of engines reving to redlines, the exaust creating a mellow rumble to a sudden thunderous roar, the push of the acceleration keeping me in my seat, the look of the other persons facewhen in my sideview, followed by the look of their car fading into the rearview." :bandit:

I need a smoke :hehe:

I dont bother racing because my car is faster then anything out there. Its a waste of my gas. Actually I value my liscence and cheap insurance to much.

You had better be careful of what you say. Don't start a flame war!

I've beaten a 5.0 before in my old Trans Am.

So be careful what you say domestic.

But license and insurance is a good reason not too!

I'm not a huge fan of streetracing, but I did it last night, because I found someone that would race me. Generally people don't

I raced a turboed Supra (assuming it was). We weren't able to get a run from a stop, which I would have found very interesting. I've never raced a supra from a stop before, so we had to settle for a few rolling goes.

When I first found him, I pulled up by and past him to see if he was interested in racing. He followed me through what traffic he could, and did a flyby of me, and slowed down. I thought it only correct of me to do the same, so I shifted from 4th to 2nd and did the same. After this, I noticed that he was going to try the same thing again, and this time I shifted to try and match his speed. With him being on the gas and already spooling, he pulled ahead of me as we race to between 100-110mph from a 40 mph start. He ended up about 3-4 cars ahead of me. I really would have liked to have raced him from a stop, but I can only do what I can do. I gave him a big thumbs up, and we went our separate ways, partially because this time I was in front of my apartment complex. Nothing wrong with a good race, I lost, so what...

As much as I would rather race on a track, I'm not against the occassional streetrace. Just gotta be smart about it.

I'm sure from a start that your camaro probably would of had em. GM's sports car seem to have great starts.

That's how I beat most of the Stang's that I raced. They aren't that fast from a stop but they get good pickup once their RPM's get high.

It's hard to judge a rolling start on who wins. Cause if he was already making the advance then that means that you would have to catch up the the momentum that he was already going and then pass that. Very tough without a bottle or something like that to get enough horses to do it in such a short time.

Exactly. I was just coming home last night from being out, so it really didn't matter to me. He had the momentum, I wanted to go fast, so I jumped on it. No biggie, I just hope that I see him around town again. There are three bad ass supras in Lawrence, so that makes one that I've been able to try.

You're from lawerance? I go to school at Fort Hays State, not sure if you know where thats at, but its a couple hours away from KU. I'm gonna have to come up there and check out the supra's sometime.

Yup, the one that I raced last night was yellow, another is silver, and one is black. Those are the three that I recall offhand. The yellow looked nice, the guy obviously took good car of it and put money into it. The silver one has alot of work done to it: body kit, engine work, exhaust, looked good as well. The black one I've only seen once, and it was last semester, so I don't remember it too well.

It's all good. From the beginning to all eternity there will always be a fight between who is faster domestic or imports.

For right now everyone is just gonna have to agree to disagree. It's the driver who makes the difference.
But every good racer has to be a little bit cocky at times. I just didn't want this to turn into an argument. I just wanted to see if everyone has basically the same reasons for racing.

i didnt vote cause...

no girl has ever thought my car was cool enough to date me... plus women are just added weight... every 100lbs is a tenth off your 1/4 time!

i dont need to race my car to get an adrenaline rush... i just need to start it. Gotta love Cam over lap!

i like having my license, and insurance is high enough with 2 vehicles at the age of 19... i dont need anything else to make it go higher.

I really dont need to race, i already know i can hold my own against 90% of the cars on the street.

Not to mention my car spends 98% of its life in the backyard cause something is always going wrong. My car is a problem child, but i'll eventually have thrown enough money at it... it'll be like new again.. AHhhh the wonders of Restoration.

Im sure your car is fast, but just remember that there is always someone out there on the road that is faster. Have you run your stang at the track? I know a Crx that would give you a decent run. Its a daily driver, gets 20 mpg and is tagged. He has beaten my other friends 93 LX stang that runs consistent 12.50s. Couldnt tell what the CRX runs though. He refuses to tell us.

I street race my car on occasion to give all the younger kids with slow cars something to think about... Hmm that car looked stock but yet my huge wing, intake, exhaust and washer lights didnt give me the edge. how can that be?

Its all about he rush!!! The fact that the track is never open and/or to far to drive too and the owners are jerks about every thing that has any thing to do with beating stangs and other hot rods, has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I like to street race!!!

I was being sarcastic. Like you said there is always some one faster. The real reason I rarely race on the street is, its not worth the risk of being caught. Also, the idiot your racing may not know what their doing and wreck and kill some one. Since you were participating, your going down to spend some time in a cell with a guy named bubba.

i agree with him. im not trying to impress anybody except for myself. When you win, theres always jealous bitches that want to search your car for nitrous or talk shit anyway. is a fast car really a reason to respect somebody? Theres a kid around here with a superchaged NSX and everyone thinks hes a bitch, so obviously not. and who am i going to get respect from? the police? the community? My friends already respect me so its not for them. you guys watch way too many movies. if you want respect, become a firefighter.

I love most all car. I think that they are all works of art. I respect a person who loves their car, cares for it, and puts quality parts on it. Someone who doesn't cheap out.

Do what it takes to win. I don't look for respect from the cops. I look to piss them off and give them a job. If we weren't out there racing then they would have nothing to do.

No no no, you don't understand. The guy with the supercharged NSX is really a bitch. He's a total tool to anyone that isn't "as cool" as he is. It's not because we're jealous of his car, which we are, but he doesn't know how to drive it, it's paid for by his daddy (he dad owns the Honda dealership where he does his customizing, and he does nothing all day but worry about what car he's getting next. He's a dick to everyone.

You ever see creepy guys waving at you as you race? yeah thats the Rapist cheering you on, knowing in about 3 minutes you'll have every cop in your town after yer butt... while he can rape some poor old lady in relative peace.

I can't really vote in this poll because of the options.

Think of streetracing like sex... its not an adrenaline rush that motivates us... its a little more deep than that. All the senses are hightened, and the whole experience is enveloping. Romantic, social, dangerous, pleasing, satisfying, challenging, thought-provoking... all rolled into one.

If all I wanted was an adrenaline rush I'd go mess with someone's pit bull... its cheaper and legal.

I street race becuase if I took my car to the track I would get laughed at. :( Also because of the adrenaline rush associated w/ street racing. You know it is illegal, and it makes it all the better when you can race and not get busted by the police. :D

The cops in our town race themselves. I'm dead serious. The other day I was walking down the sidewalk at 11:00 PMish and there's 2 cops racing down the street. They do it a lot too. Most everybody knows it.
A couple weeks back two of the cops crashed racing. The media and shit agreed not to publicize it but I just happened to be driving by right after it happened. There have been NO wrecks out at our racing strip, on every Friday of the 2 years the strip started getting popular not one wreck from the racers but then a week after the cops start doing it they wreck. hehe, should tell you something...

A few cops sit out at the local loop where everybody races just out of obligation because of pressure to stop it. But their cool about it. They won't go after people racing but being "safe"... (if you will). But if they see some asshole being a dick or doing really stupid stuff, they'll pull him.
One of them also sits in the parking lot of a Taco Bell in his (personal) F-250 (supposedly off-duty) and everybody knows he's a cop but he's real nice to people. If their not sure if stuffs legal or not they can just go right up while he's sitting in his truck and ask him. He originally sat there to tell people not to sit in the lot cuz it's where the imports would go to pop the hoods and show off their shit. Now he just sits there to be helpful.
Most of the cops around here are pretty decent. There's a few dicks tho.

BlkCamaroSS

I live in the big college town. It's easier to get away with shit

ooh, yea I've seen the cops down there in those small towns. They will ALWAYS pull you over and ALWAYS give you a ticket in those towns with the population of like 43 because it's their only source of income. They'll be cheap little bitches about it too.
In one town where my dad was driving through the speed limit was 30 and he knows to do everything right in those towns because he's gotten so many tickets like that. So he does exactly 30 and sure enough, a cop pulls him over and he's just shocked because he tried so hard to be perfect. SO the cop gets up there and hes like "is there a problem officer" and the cops like "yo'ur damn right theres a problem! you were going a good 10 miles over the speed limit!" and my dads like "no I wasnt!" He gets this ridiculously huge ticket for it and it turns out theres this little speed limit sign drilled to the side of a building but it's covered with vines and behind a tree and the cop will sit there every day and give people tickets there because it's the only way the town makes any money. What horseshit. I don't even think that's legal, to pull people over for voliating an obstructed sign...

My mom recently got a ticket in Houston for speeding. If you are out of state, they are really looking to nail you because they know that you aren't going to be able to show up for court and your only option is to just pay it. Tickets are all about revenue for cities...not safety, regardless of what they claim.

not always true, sherrifs get -nothing- out of giving tickets, they dont have to. They dont really give much a care about what you do unless its 70 in a 40 or something...i've done pleanty and they never cared.

LBPD on the other hand is a city force and has a quota of how many they have to give each month.

The sherrif does get revenue from tickets as well. The money from the tickets that they give out goes to the county and is split throughout the department...also some of the money is given to the city where the ticket was given.

in england we have speed cameras and when the police give you tickets and you get tickets from the cameras all money goes to the treasury not the police so the police really don't like speed cameras either

apparently you have to do 180mph for a camera not to give you a ticket cuz it doesn't even know you passed it SWEET DEAL now how on earth do i use that useless information to get up to 180mph on a 30mph B road that has corners n stuff ................ maybe i just burn the camera ........
