i got some summit racing mufflers, and then I am going to get them powdercoated, nice sound no res needed and the powder coating will make them pretty lol
Never heard of powedercoating mufflers before, what the hell color would you do them?

DeadBlade89
09-22-2006, 04:52 PM
Like the other have said, you can go that route ONLY if you buy one that has the name brand on it. Or you could skip ebay altogether and just buy one from a respectable online store or a good muffler shop near you. I got my exhaust from a custom car shop by me and I love it. (its dual Ractive mufflers btw)

ok...well i was thinking about getting this exhaust. good choice or no?

and then for headers, i was thinking of the following... (id like a 4-2-1)

Never heard of powedercoating mufflers before, what the hell color would you do them?

no clue, might go black or silver depends really, the mufflers don't get hot enough to mess up the powder coating

has any heard of or used JDM Sport exhausts and/or OBX Racing Headers?

Lances133
09-24-2006, 12:32 PM
I don't know much about then but I do know I would never use either. They're definitely not has good as other name brands out there. You get what you pay for with car/car parts. If you're looking for cheap stuff, you're into the wrong hobby.

DeadBlade89
09-24-2006, 12:51 PM
i kno ill have to spend alot. i just want to see if i can get something that will save me a little money that is just as good. y do u think im asking? im asking all of u so i dont get riped off. im goinna ask questions no matter wut. idc if the product is $100 or $500, im going to ask so i get an idea of how that product will perform. :disappoin

now...if i can ask another question...
would anyone kno how HPRacing headers perform? i saw Nopi sellin them.:naughty:

Lances133
09-24-2006, 12:57 PM
I hear ya man, I'm just stressing the fact that cheap parts will only do you wrong. Trying to spare you the trips to the stress doctor.

About the Hpracing header, did you see any specifically for Cavaliers? Because I can't say i've heard of them.

DeadBlade89
09-24-2006, 12:59 PM
ya...thx, i really do appreciate it. but ya...thats y i do keep askin the questions is so i kno for sure. so wut would u consider the HPRacing header that Nopi sells? it looks desent considering that its ceramic coated.

DeadBlade89
09-24-2006, 01:36 PM
no, i dont think ive seen one SPECIFICALLY for a cav. not 100% sure tho. wut exhaust system and header do u have on ur car lance?

and also, how do u think a Vibrant Performance exhaust system would perform?

Lances133
09-24-2006, 02:38 PM
I've never heard of an HpRacing header for cavaliers so they might not make them, I have no idea tho.

On my 96 2.2, I had a ceramic coated 4-1 Pacesetter header, with a Magnaflow high flow cat converter, and the Rksport magnaflow dual exhaust. The whole exhaust was pretty much just for show and bragging rights....aside from being a waste of $1,000+ for a 2.2. The 4-1 header design, combined with the dual exhaust with straight through mufflers was just too much flow for the little 2.2 engine, lol i had no rear pressure to..push? the car, if you will? I'll never get a 4-1 header again or a dual muffler exhaust set up, unless im only going for looks. But I took that all off the car anyway because im parting it out and selling it. I don't have an after market exhaust on my z24 yet but I plan on getting the Rksport 4-2-1 header, with a magnaflow highflow cat converter again, with a Dynomax resonator to dampen the sound, with either a Dynomax super turbo muffler or a Magnaflow dual outlet muffler that's made for the Srt4s.

I personally don't have any experience with Vibrant exhausts nor have I heard of anyone having one, but they don't look too bad, they kinda look like they'd have a raspy sound to them but I looked them up and they said that "some" systems have an intergrated resonator already on the connecting pipe, so if you go with that one, i'd ask them if it comes with the resonator or not, if not just pick up a dynomax one from summitracing.com, they're not expensive, probly around $50, def. under $100.

DeadBlade89
09-24-2006, 03:14 PM
nice:grinyes:

hey, i was jw...is it better if the resonator is longer (18") or shorter (12")? and how much does the stock exhaust piping kill performance? cuz now im thinking of just buying a header, resonator, catalytic converter, and muffler w/ tip.

Lances133
09-24-2006, 03:25 PM
The longer the resonator, the more it dampens the sound. I don't know too much about the pipe diameters other then, (i think) 2.25 is the way to go, someone correct me if i'm wrong.

DeadBlade89
09-24-2006, 03:53 PM
ok, so it doesnt really matter that much whether i go w/ a 12 or 18 inch resonator? i thought the pipe diameter was 2.50. i could be wrong tho; 2.25 makes a lil more sense since its stock and all.

Cavalier2000
09-24-2006, 03:54 PM
for a 2200 yes 2.25 is stock and would work just fine unless you are boosted

DeadBlade89
09-24-2006, 04:04 PM
ok, thx lance and cav

DeadBlade89
09-24-2006, 05:34 PM

DeadBlade89
09-24-2006, 06:12 PM

09-24-2006, 06:29 PM
Its really up to what you want. #2 and 3 are both for alot of sound, and the last one is for sound and looks. Really not much diffrence inbetween each one, just your own preference.

my99cavy
09-24-2006, 06:54 PM
The last one, gotta get a resonator too tho.:iagree: definatley go with that one and then an 18in resonator.

DeadBlade89
09-24-2006, 07:47 PM
ok, im gonna get the last one. looks good to me!

about the resonator, do i REALLY need it? i want a nice loud deep sound to my exhaust and wont the resonator just take away from that? idk...i was just thinking.

my99cavy
09-24-2006, 08:08 PM
the resonator wont take that much sound away from it. but what it will do is keep your exhaust from sounding very crackly and ricey.

DeadBlade89
09-24-2006, 08:32 PM
ok, so it should still be pretty loud and sounding good, correct? will a 12in resonator do the job or no?

my99cavy
09-24-2006, 08:40 PM
Yes you should be very pleased with the resonator on there. I think the 12 in one is ok but alot of people recommend the 18 in one :dunno:

Derow69
09-24-2006, 10:24 PM
k well i have a powertech muffler that is pretty damn sweet. and shit it is loud when u take the silencer out and i still have my resonator in and my muffler at 5.5 rpm is 119.9 Db loud so ya it is pretty damn loud. liek the legal limit here in saskatchewan is like 80 Db lol. and it has a lower deep sounds and still ricey sound and not that high pitch sound that sounds liek a dirt bike lol! :)

dwb985
09-24-2006, 10:31 PM
I have a question here.....i read somewhere (i forget where) but there is not an 4-2-1 header for the 2.4 even the ones that say they are if you look at the design the header pipes are going the wrong away if you put it on a 2.4 the pipes would head for the front of the car.....unless you can turn them around somehow but that doesn't look possible. just something i remember reading cause i wanted a 4-2-1 header and since i couldn't get one i decided that was the end of the header idea.

i have a 99 cavy 2.4l and my res is a just stock i got stock exhaust for now but i am prob goign to get a better exhaust next spring but u should invest in this muffler man liek i live in asmaller town and my friends say they can here me coming when i am giving her shit aobut 1/2 way across town and maybe abit more at night she is a nice sound t like when it is idleing on the garage u can hear her nicely in the house :) i dont think it is a waste of money it was one of my best investments. and my 2800$ stereo :)

ok. y that one? im jw so i kno y. u kno?

but im gonna get this Vibrant Performance resonator

http://www.sfxperformance.com/parts/VIB1790.htm
I wouldn't get that one, when you look into resonators, the best ones have a perforated center, with fiberglass packing inside, the Vibrant one you listed doesn't say anything about that.

And I chose the last muffler because it's got a slanted rolled edge, which i think looks way better then the look of a soup can that's been opened by a can opener, and the tip isn't obnoxiously long.

thx for informing me about that. is there any brands of resonators u recommend? got ne links? i was thinkin about the slanted tip on the muffler. i was wondering about the tip length too cuz i dont want it too long. ill prolly get that 1 tho, its looks good. theres a 99% chance, but i wanna check out the one derow recommended.
