A friend of mine has one, but it recently caught fire and burned up. He's looking at another (an ex-cop car) because he loved it too. I saw one on a trip to Florida in the Tampa area that was painted like a cop car, but in pink and white instead of black and white. It had "bikini inspector" on the door, and purple roof light lenses instead of blue and red.

We had a 78 or 79 caprice classic, sort of the same. From what I remember it had lousey HP due to the smog stuff, i think it was B4 car manufacturers knew what to do with pollution stuff, right after they got rid of the high beam switch on the floor,,,,, remeber that,,,huh ?

The original Impala was discontinued after the '85 model year.
I have a Caprice 9C1 (Police Package) from that timeframe.

I can get 24 easily with my old beater:

I find that for some reason the cruise control doesn't work out well for me, but I could probably do way better if I were to use it instead of playing with the fun pedal along the highway.

About 14 or so in the city, about 21-24 on the highway depending on how I drive and whether or not there's mountains. It's not bad for a big V8-powered brick. At least it's gotta be better than the car in my avatar - that's a genuine Phoenix Police car turned dragster, powered by a 502. The Phoenix Police dept. calls it "Blue By You (http://www.phoenix.gov/police/race.html)".
Sweet lookin machine, Blue Bowtie!
