lighting question

Hey all, got a question about interior lights. I was in Vegas a few weeks ago, and stopped at a stoplight next to another last gen. sable (same as my '01). Anyways, I could swear that the cruise control buttons on the steering wheel were backlit. Mine aren't, but should they be? I have a 2001 Sable LS Premium. The one I saw was driven by a little old lady, so it wasn't an aftermarket mod for sure. Just never been inside anyone elses at night or bothered to look.
