hi I just finished installing a new synchronizer on my 97 3.8L windstar, I did the job without the special tool that it says you need . I marked the old synch and installed the new one . The van started up no problem and good. I cleared the P0340 code and it did not comeback. Just wondering if the van would still run good if the synchro was not off, How do I tell if it is good or not.this site has been great for for working on this van. any help would be great thanks .

I think your method is just fine ... if you don't have the alignment tool.
The injector is timed to "fire" as the intake air is rushing into the combustion chamber. If too soon or too late, you end up with gasoline liguid droplets on metal surfaces instead of an airborne mist. Not good ... and could result in severe pre-ignition.
