Ok When I work I always park my across the very last 2 spots in the parking lot. Its never like those spots get used or anything. Anyways, one day my boss is in a pissy mood and he's kinda a dick and he says
"see that piece of shit there across two spots move it before I tow it"
needless to say I was kinda pissed (and didn't move it)
and I said that piece of shit is faster than your mach 1 ( he has an all original 1971 mustang mach 1). Well he got REAAAALLLLY mad that I just trashed his love of the life and got all defensive saying he'll race me for slips. Well Im not willing to risk my car on a missed shift but I was willing to put 200 on it. He knows very little about modern cars and had no idea even what that shiny thing in my grill was ;). Well he was so confident (aftrer asking what displacement my engine is 2l ;) ;) he said he'll even give me 2 car lengths. So what do you guys think? Think I will take him>? his car is a 351 HP Anyone got any ideas on 1/4 times for those cars/ Just want to know if I fucked up or I am looking at money for a new exhaust!!
PLEASE PLEASE tell me the honest truth. I know his car is fast but It hasn't been raced ever and the parts are all almost 40 years old I bet he spins a bearing or something ( WHICH I WOULD LOVE) WIN BY DQ the two sweetest words in the english language!

HAHA! Where do you live, I'll stop by and show him a "POS" thats not even 1/2 as nice as your car and I'll race for slips. Its all stock, I swear. I'll even give him a 2 bus lengths.
That mustang would probably run a low 14. Maybe a high 13 if he nows how to drive. You have the mods to kick his ass, just hurry up and get your car tuned at about 22-24psi and you'll blow by him easily. If your car is tuned, just be a smart ass and tell him he can have 2 car lengths.

I would be VERY surprised if he runs quicker than a high 14. The Mach1 was never very fast. They didn't calculate horsepower the same back then either so that 350hp he is bragging about is way less in real life. If it is all original, then you will take him EASY. Do you get good traction with those short side walled tires? If you do you will murder him off the line, because I bet that pig he is driving weighs 3800lbs at least and he is not coming off the line very quick.

OK well I'm definitly going to film the race (if he lets me some people get antsy around cameras). The race is scheduled for the 30th I think its a wednesday. I don't know why he wants to race on a wednesday but he was adament about it. I have my car DD set at 15 psi and it runs 13.5. I'm not even sure I should start changing boost levels before the race because the 15 PSI should be enough any thoughts? I've never had my car professionally tuned, where do you get that done?

I cant imagine one of those old original cars beating your EvoIII DSM. My dads old race car stripped, gutted, and tube framed weighed in at 3800 with him in it. Grant they had some weight added for distribution and minimum weight purposes, but it wasnt that much. I would guess that tub to be over 4000. You should walk him like a dog man. I would take the two lengths and act like you are nervous. Then fuckin whip out the 14 inch DSM fury and get to work on his old, wrinkly "American Muscle." Be relentless. This reminds me of the time some fat indian wanted to box. He is 16, maybe 5'10" and pretty fat, I'd say like 280 or so. He walks around work acting all tough shit and one day I kinda popped off on him. He askes me if I wanted to box to settle it. I said sure, but I was a little scared because if he really had that big of a mouth, I figured he would be able to back it up. He wanted to put $100 on it and he was going to use gloves and I could go bareknuckle. Turns out, he cant even bench 150. I just laughed at him. I am quite a few inches taller, I bench a tad over 200. I am bigger, stronger, quicker, and a much harder fitting surface. He left McDonalds after that day. What a fuckin sandbox.

Where did I put that "slap" button?
I had a 70 GTO, and that thing could move. You never know how fast that mustang will move untill you race. If its restored to stock, you should be fine, but modding a V8 is cheep and simple.
Anyway, last time I raced, I beat a Turbo DSM....with my dads Solara!

I back up what Davenport says. Age doesn't matter at all. If the Mustang has been taken care off (which it should because they'll worth a decent amount) it'll run OK. If it has some simple mods, it'll really run. Heck, my 70 Trans Am I use to have would easily run down into the 12's. It just had headers and an intake that wasn't stock and no, it wasn't gutted. It even had AC!

:bs: Gotta pull this out for that one. Unless you had some weight reduction, decent tires, some higher compression, and atleast a mildly built/cammed head you would not hit 12's. I've been around old V8's long enough to know it takes much more work than that to get 12's.
And watch your fucking language. ;)

remember that after you smoke him, be a cool sport about it. if your boss is as much of a dick as you say, it'll probably be kinda rough working there after he knows his pride and joy lost to a "piece of shit". so dont throw it in his face or anything just be like "real nice race" or something humble. then come on the forums and be a post-whore about it.

Stock 70 Mach 1's are closer to 3500lbs. Some came with 428 CobraJet engines - [email protected]. They were severely affected by the stock emissions equipment so all he would need is headers and exhaust and he'll be dipping into the 13's. 335Bhp and 440lbs/ft.
They were also available with 351 Windsor and 351 Cleveland engines. The Cleveland is beefier than the Windsor. The 2valve Cleveland put out 250bhp and 355lbs/ft and the 4 valve Cleveland put out 300bhp and 380lbs/ft.
I used to have 73 Mach 1 w/ 351C 2 valve and that thing hauled ass. Never took it to the track but I'd guess with my bolt-on mods it was low 14's or high 13's. The problem was the back end was so light and there was so much torque all I could do was spin my tires.

Now that I think about it, you REALLY should tick up the boost. Hes probably tuning or modding his car as well. A set of tubular headers and some slicks will bump that car up in speed alot easyer and faster than your tuning.
Anyways, winnings not just winning. Make a stand, buiry him!

i agree with davenport. with all the mods you have why dont you run 17-18 psi, hell make it 20, just for the race? if you dont know how to do it yourself look in every nook and cranny of the city you live in and surrounding areas and find some small-time dsm expert who wants to make $40 and have him street tune your car for the extra boost, then bring the settings back to normal after the race. I dont think it would hurt anything if you raise the boost for 1 or 2 passes.
(ps, i dont mean to insult anyone by telling you to find a dsm expert. i dont know anything about you or how much you know about cars, i dont know much about anyone on this forum, but i was just trying to give a helpful suggestion  )

Well I guess it wasn't a good gauge to use my '70 TA as a comparison since Pontiac Ram Air 400 engines are a totally different animal from a 351c(that's the mostly likely engine in that Mach1) I mearly wanted to point out that if the owner is a good driver, the car is tuned good, has good tires, and he can hook it, it'll be a good, close race where the driver will be the winner especially if they are taking off at a complete stop.

You should hang your head in shame for comparing a Ram Air 400 to a furking mach 1 :nono: That's blasphemy!

Did you put it on the scales? I would have to see that weigh sheet before you can make me believe one of those fat bastards weighs less than 3700lbs with driver (yeah you can't race without a driver). :smooch: 335bhp is about 270whp I would say. WOW :shakehead
They were also available with 351 Windsor and 351 Cleveland engines. The Cleveland is beefier than the Windsor. The 2valve Cleveland put out 250bhp and 355lbs/ft and the 4 valve Cleveland put out 300bhp and 380lbs/ft.

Add in headers, etc. and you still don't have much unless you get into that engine with a cam and do something about those crappy Ford heads (although the 351 clevland is better than most Fords, the 428 is also a good motor). Versus a lighter car with all wheel drive and a 16g which IIRC is capable of putting out 38lbs/min. Bottom line is low 14's and high 13's is NOT hauling ass, my chevy pickup will do that. If steviek has shitty traction, he will still kill that stang off the line and when boost hits after that it's all over his car should be capable of an easy 12 sec (someone tell me I am wrong  ). I think my boss is getting scared/having second thoughts but Im still going make him race.
Today when I was at work I brought up the race again to my boss just to make sure he was still down. I told him I would meet him where I/we work at 2 on wednesday, he replied by asking me if it was going to be a nice day (not confirming that he would meet me) anyways i was like yea (even though i have no idea). ANd then he goes I got NOS yunno(which stunk like BS, I think hes trying to scare me into not wanting to race him), I'm like well I've beat a car with noz before. ANd I asked him direct port? and he's like yea<
( i dunno can a carburetor have direct port?) didn't matter to me, I think he was just trying to change the topic away from setting an exact time. I think hes having second thoughts but Im still going to force him to race me.
Then I ran into him at a car show after work tonight, and he goes so which one do you want to race my mach one or my camaro, and I was like when the fuck did I say anything about your 1989 camaro, I want your mAch 1! Hes just trying to sound so cool and I want to beat him sooooo bad. Anyways thats my update for tonight. Tommmorow Im gonna pressure his ass to set a fixed time so theres no escaping me . VRRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooommmmmmmmm mm

I would make sure hes not running nitrous before you go. Some of those V8 guys shove alot of that shit in there.
This is a good thread.

Today, I was taking my car out to tune the BOV and decided to go for a run.
Well I had a sweet launch and my car was tearing but just before I Finished the 1/4 (end of third about to switch to 4th) My intercooling pipe blew off :S. Fucking fucked up my sweet as run... I still managed to coast to a pretty decent time. So I had to get under my car and fucking reattach and tighten the coupler and those damn hose clamps, It was soo fucking hard with the pipes In place But I managed to get them back on. Kinda worried about them popping off in the race again. Anyways Im about to go to work, Ill tell you what happens when I start pressuring my boss to set a fixed time.
Oh yea and here is the run that started off so well.

that run woulda been 13.1 if I hadn't blown my shit up! Note the 60ft and 0-60 times

Id make SUPER sure that all that stuff is on tight and right, Imagine if that would have happened while you were racing your boss? You could NEVER live it down! Unless of course you won, then you could say you blew your shit up and STILL won!

Gotta love those icp's blowing off.
I think this is the very reason I should invest putting v-band clamps on my icp's...

whats a vband clamp?
A v-band clamp has 3 parts... Refer to link for pictures. The two outer pieces get welded to the ends of the two pipes being connected. The center piece straps around them and holds them together by the lip all the way around so that there is no way for them to "blow off." Most of them also include o-rings so that they don't make boost leaks.

If a race is what you want, then why don't you call him out and tell him how scared he is infront of your co-workers, and his employees? especially with the ladies. how could he back down from that? punk him out so he knows you mean business? show him that you have his balls right in your hands.
