Well surprise surprise I went to change the fuel filter on my 98 and came accrossed those stupid compression fittings on the forward side of the filter....but a stroke of luck the TOOL, that is mentioned as being mounted to the underneath was there...what a shocker...about time things started going right with my POS.....anyway the fuel filter a piece of cake with the tool. See it's not all bad news all the time ;)

I keep hearing about this tool for the fuel filter. This worries me because I don't recall having one, using one, or finding one on my 99 and I have replaced my filter at least 2 times.
Anyone else not have or need this tool on theirs?

Depends on the year and engine. Some have little clips you pull out. Some have little buttons you push. Some have the older style that uses a tool to release the line.

Don't worry about it, my 2000 had the buttons on the line you depress to release, probably the same as your 99. No tool required.

Thanks,
What really confused me is that my filter uses the plastic clips. This is the same as an 86 and 87 Fords that I have owned. (very similar filter too). It then seems like Ford changed it for a while and then went back to this set up. I didn't really expect that.
