99 Windstar. Where does the plug go?

I just finished completing the repair for my cond 171 and 174, replacing seals under the intake plenum. When I put it back together I have a electrical plug that doesnt seem to go anywhere. It's behind the air filter near the master cylinder the one that branches off the wiper motor wiring harness. It's not the one to the speed control switch under the master cylinder. It's small and has only about a 12 inch reach but I can't seem to find out where it goes. I feel pretty stupid right about now so the sooner help comes the better :banghead:. Thanks

Dont feel stupid for doing DIY....most of us have jobs that have nothing to do with vehicle mechanics...so feel proud you saved yourself some money...anyway how many pins on this connector??that will give a better indication....what engine do you have 3 or 3.8?

I'ts a 3.8 and there are two pins, Actually they look like receptors for pins. If it helps to know, the engine runs fine even though it's not plugged in.

might be the fluid level sensor....on the side of the master cylinder...it plug into right underneath of the reservoir on the side. That sounds like the only thing back there in that area...or if you follow the pcv hose it goes to a "box" on the firewall, it has a plug on it too...let me know..

Not the fluid level sensor and not the box on the firewall. I'm loading pictures on my website right now. It's the plug that comes out of the wiper motor wire harness. You should be able to see them at www.candleimage.com/whatisit.html (http://www.candleimage.com/whatisit.html) .

Just out of curiosity do you have everything put back together...the intake as well..... could be the intake air temperature sensor....it's right on the flex portion of the intake duct.after that I am running out of ideas...

I just took a look at your pictures of the plug. I have a 98 Widstar and will try to take a look under the hood to see what it plugs into. Just by looking at the plug, I bet that plug was never pluged in. There is dirt where the plug would be pluged in.

Could be an extra plug for an option you do not have on that model. If it runs good and the CEL stays off, then you should be OK.

Everything is back together. The CEL light came on with a code 181. I reset it and it has stayed out for about two hours of driving, so I'm still watching it. My Windstar is an SEL so it has most of the options but perhaps there is an option I'm not aware of.

I found the same thing on my 2000 LX and it is not hooked up. I seem to remember this when I did the iso bolt fix. It was not hooked up to begin with so I figured it was for an accessory I did not have. Yours being the SEL model, it still may have a home. I would check the wire colors going to it (mine are red and green) and refer to a schematic or ask the Ford tech just to make sure. Good luck.

If its a female 2 prong plug with black exterior and red interior, its the connection for the hood open alarm sensor. This is mounted next to the hood hinge on edge of the driver's side cowling and looks like a plunger switch with a black accordion rubber pointing up.

I am pretty sure I have the same wire hanging on my '99 LX. It goes to nowhere. Like they said-maybe for the hood alarm.

Is this hood alarm an option? I have searched high and low for the sensor but cannot find it. Not a big deal, but my curiosity is driving me nuts.
