2000 Montero Sport

I have a 2000 Montero Sport and will be replacing the rear brake rotors. I tried to take the rotors off, but couldn't. Didn't want to force too hard because I didn't know if they were mechanically held in place somehow (besides by the wheel lug nuts). Should I just bang away at them to get them off?

Been a while since I owned this vehicle, but are they held on by some large slotted screws? I might be remembering wrong, though. Been 3 years since I had it.
