I've got a 95 Camaro with a 3.4 in it...it's an automatic, a shame, but it is :(, anyway, my buddy has a 97 Mustang with a 3.8-standard...both basically all stock, except for the flowmaster I've got on mine...anyway, in a heads up race, does the .4 more liters really have that much pull? I haven't raced him yet, but if I do, I'd like to know what to expect :)

um dont know who would win but uh....pretty much all v-6 stangs suck dook bootie when it comes to any kinda of power output. The v-8's are at least ok.
maybe that helps??

Eh, it will be close. The 3.8 stangs do not put out any respectable power, but either do the 3.4's. It will be very close.

To try and make the race go more in your favor, try to lighten the car up a bit by taking out the rear seats and your tire/jack.. remember, any weight you take off of your car is helpful!

you would have to take out the back rest part of the back seats for it to do something if anything. Id just race him and see what happens if you really want to know.

No kidding or anything.
Not the newer or the 99-04 ones. But the older 94-98 GTs.
Kept up with them and beaten a few. It's only when we get to high speeds do they win. Anything over 110 and my engine stops.

I'm with everyone else here on that the 3.4 couldnt beat a GT man. Seeing as in how I've raced 2 GT's in my 3.4 at the track and got my ass handed to me both times.
As for a 3.4 vs a 3.8 mustang.... very close race. The 3.8 in the mustangs makes about 150 hp, while the 3.4 makes around 160. I know I've raced one of the newer mustangs with the 3.8 hung with him off the line, but he started pulling ahead of me around 50 mph. That was with just a cheesy ebay intake on, I'm sure I could beat one now with the new intake and exhaust I've got. So yeah, you might have a chance of beating him if he's all stock. Otheriwise I see it as whoever's the better driver wins.

I am sorry but unless you raced a severly hurting 4.6 or 5.0 there is no way, just look at it from a numbers perspective. I fully support your chances against a 3.8 stang like was mentioned but lets be real for a minute. I just read what blind said as well as have heard countless mustang vs me storys from Kaotik. The is no way a healthy GT Mustang couldn't walk you Ftheman.

I love my 3.4, but I agree...it wouldn't take a healthy GT without some mods...but in a sense, I can see what FTheMan means when he says he gets a bit of a "boost"(don't we all), I've had mine between 110-115 before, it was sitting around 4800RPMS, so it still had 700 more to go before computer would've made it shift into overdrive, but I don't think it had much more pull to it.

You need a couple things besides just the turbo but I would say you can safely run 9 PSI with high octane 93 fuel and ofcouse a tune to go along with it. That will make for a nice little bump in performance.

I would say you can go a little higher as most turbo's/supercharger don't really have the need for a intercooler til around 10 + PSI but I would think if you step up the boost a little and intercool. I could see a mid to low 14's in there.

Do they actually make a kit to super/turbo charger the 3.4l? Because I've yet to find one.
Yes they do. Here's one of the more popular sites:
http://www.force-fed-fabrications.com/index2.htm
But even if you do turbo a 3.4, you're still not going to see the results that you would like to see. Why? Because those paperweights that GM likes to refer to being an intake and cylinder heads. They're mainly what kill the 3.4. But there is a solution that I've only heard of a few people actually doing. You find a 99+ Grand Am GT with the FWD 3400, and you swap the heads, and the upper and lower intake manifold. But, by swapping the heads, you'll wind up increasing your compression dramatically, so you'll need the pistons out of the Grand Am engine too so you can still run on pump gas.
Here's a page of a guy who did the swap:
http://camaro.adwire.com/modpics/
That guy, after doing the swap, is now pushing 216 HP and 250 TQ to the flywheel. Not bad from the original 160 HP and 200 TQ.
So lets do the math, by swapping the newer set of aluminum heads, upper and lower intake manifolds, and the pistons from a Grand Am GT (1999+ years) with the FWD 3400, you can possibly gain 50+ Hp and 50+ TQ. Now if that doesn't show ya that the 3.4 is being restricted like crazy, then I don't know what will.

For 60* heads GM makes a canted valve head that is supposedly amazing... in fact, I hear GMPP has a whole slew of stuff for the 60* engines.
Back on topic though, it'll be a driver's race I think... and as for the GTs, I can take the mid-90s ones easily, and probably some others too ;)

Well consider I bought a stock 93 5.0 mustang and had been racing for a while prior. So driving wasn't a thing and before I started with the mods I raced a 3.8 Camaro and it was damn near dead lock til 70MPH or so. So I am sorry to say your very much mistaken. However I in all honesty must point out that the 5.0 IMO has way more potential for ripping up a 1/4 than a 3.8 camaro.
