So what job is it that all of you are not doing while cruising AF during the day?
I'm an intern for the Marketing Department at Northwestern University. So I should be creating some profiles on potential media vendors for 2007, but instead I'm on AF wasting away.
Note: If you think your boss might read this, you may wanna change some details..... Big Brother is watching :uhoh:

I work on a gokart track. i'm that creepy track attendant who hits on the 16 year olds...... not really.
anyways, it's a fine job, not much to do but hang out and talk, on any day other than tuesdays (99 cent tuesdays, 1 lap for a dollar), weekends, or if we have a big group. i basicly spend my time directing people, starting ppl up, and kicking ppl off :grinyes: that just makes my day, whenever i kick a group of like 4 people off, it's great stress release.
edit: after the summer i'll be a universiy student

This summer, I've been working at a steel pipe fitting plant doing quality control work like testing, measuring, stuff like that. The best though was when I get to play courier; they give me a pice(s) of metal samples to drive 120mi round trip to an outside testing facility, to the tune 48.5 cents/mi and the music from my cars CD player:thumbsup: Even durring a regular day, I'm still loving it, its all hands on and I get nice and dirty until the point where my mother says I look like a coal miner when I come home every day.
You guys are right about the free food, last week durring the heat wave an Ice Cream truck showed up one after noon. Oh, and at the company picnic, they had (all free) the usual hotdogs and burgers, a bag of steamed/boiled for every guest, plus a few kegs of beer :evillol: Sucked that I'm still only 19 :crying:
But in about 3 weeks, I'm back to being a full-time student.

I don't know about drinkin at work. At a steel plant I could definitely see me drinkin. But whenever they have parties at my job, they always have a wine and beer spread with the Heinikens just staring me in the face, tempting me. But the way I see it, when I start drinkin beer, I go into a whole other mode of operation. I don't have to be/get drunk, but I know I want to. So why even tease my brain with the notion of a drunken stupor?
It would be pretty funny to see evrybody drunk at work though. :icon16: We have one office that we suspect already is, but thats a different subject entirely

My 9-5 is as a graphic designer for a sign shop here in Spokane, WA. I basically design signs all day long, from big ones to small ones. For the most part, it's pretty dry work after doing it for the last year because customers are too cheap to buy the really creative stuff, and usually they have their own design already thought up, so it takes alot of the creativity out of it. But, there are alot of occasions where I can do whatever I want with a sign, and those are the clients I like. We also do some print media design work as well (Logos, business cards, brochures, stickers, etc...) and I always like that.
In my spare time, I do freelance graphic design and web development. At this point, mostly just building relatively simple (yet dynamic) websites for local businesses or individuals (php/MySQL, html, etc). I've also done alot of business cards, flyers, vinyl graphics, and I'm currently working on a big brochure deal for a local electronics manufacturing firm. At this point, not making alot of money with this, just trying to build a client portfolio, so doing everything on the cheap.
Also, in my spare time, I make some extra cash by playing regularly in a cover band. I'm a bass player/singer, and I love doing it. I'm not in it for the money, just for the fun, but I don't ever turn down spare cash. We usually play 3 weekends a month (Friday and Saturday, from 9pm to 1:30am) for a total of 10 hours a weekend. Depending on where we play, we'll earn 400 to 1000 bucks a weekend (split 4 ways). Although I don't considder it to be a job, I do make money at it.
I'll be looking for a temporary weekend job soon as I have some debt that I need to take care of and can't seem to do it with what I've got.

well after I quit the garage in december I became a bum for 4 months, took a real estate class and became a real estate sales person.
I moved out of state in May so I have to get relicensed in my new state to continue with the real estate and in the mean time I am working as a mover for a big moving company which pays really really well for being manual labor. The real estate got put to the side for awhile till I get some funds to invest some more.
I have to mention to any of you looking for a good summer job. Find a moving company. Its hard work but I have gotten into awesome shape and I make about $1000 or more a week off the books.

Research analyst. Basically just sit at a computer and look up real estate values and comparables for appraisers all day.
I also look at car forums during the day to help pass the time. It's against company policy, but give a college graduate something that a kindergarnder couldn't do and then I'll stop. Will more than likely be elsewhere in a year.

architectural draftsman.
I'm only part of the way through my professional studies so I'm not a fully qualified architect yet.
One third of my work involves going to various sites and doing an accurate survey of the site dimensions as well as noting immediate neighbouring buildings for comparisons. Another third involves drawing up plans of the exisiting buildings/site to submit as part of a buidling consent applications. The final third involves doing some basic designing of the spaces within the building project which also involves making sure that anything designed conforms to building regs. regarding room sizes and standards.
The way I am working now means that I, as part of a small team, handle most of the actual grunt/basic design work for the project with the architect in charge having final say in matters (obviously...)
On the side, because I am currently working on a free-lance basis, I do pretty much the same for family+friends but on a less immediate time scale so in a way, I am also a (very) small time property developer.

I'm a University student and (at least for the summer) a full-time networking technician on campus. Basically, I (and my crew, I get to be head due to my seniority of 3 weeks :smokin: ) get to run cat5 lines for new drops, update software, and fix internet-related issues around campus. You would be amazed at how many very intelligent professors are almost totally computer illiterate...except for the guys in the technology department--they do some crazy-neat stuff.
I'll tell you something scary: We still have a Token-ring system in place. Granted, the last year or so we have converted about 95% of it over to ethernet...but all the old hardware is still in place in our wire-closets. :banghead:
During the school year I'm part time since my classes eat up lots of time, but at $8/hr, I can't complain too much for a college student. Before this job, I was a cashier/stocker/sacker at a crappy little grocery store in my (small) hometown for all of $5.50 an hour after two years of work...I hate that place.... but it was sold to new owners so that makes me happy :)
