I have a 92 bmw 525I and the tranny leaks a bit. I was told the tranny was sealed where only a dealer could add fluid but, under the hood I found a resevoir labled aft oil only. whats in looks and smells like tranny fluid plus it is even low. can I add transmision fluid to it? what kind? just plain atf? or does it need a specila expensive fluid like my vw jetta does?? someone let me know asap, thanks in advance...

The container labled "AFT" is your power steering fluid resivior. Its in the front left of your enging bay correct? If that is low then I would still top it off. You can use AFT fluid to top it off with.
Your tranny is a different story, theres a fill and drain plug on the left side of the tranny, a size 17mm plug. Its directly under the drivers seat. To check your fluid you need to be on level ground so no ramps, jacks stands could work but try to make the car level. Your best bet is a car lift or alignment rack. When you fill it up it should start dripping out of the higher hole, then you know its filled.
