97 cav stereo

[1997 chevy cavalier sedan]

im 16 and saw this sony deck headunit for 150 $ it even has a front auxilary which is wicked. To install it i need what the fitting kit thing and.....do i just take out the plugs from the old one and popem in there ...or do i have to do any crimping or ...

is there anything to explain the process? tools needed?

also i remember a post explaing how to take off the dash to install a deck on my model it was very detailed can anyone link me to it?

so ill be doing it myself and would apreciate information because i neeed to know about the whole process cause im not experienced. will it fit and be compatible if i use the fitting kit with the deck

anything else i need?

Umm i dunno any of the intallation needs, but im pretty sure the post ur talkin bout is one of the stickys somewhere round here.

i have a sony head unit and i don't see anything wrong with it but if you meet any car audio people they will sony-bash you... so if you wanna fit in with them, get a pioneer, kenwood, or alpine....

yes you need a wireharness. thats the only way your going to be able to hook that bitch up. shouldnt need an antenna adaptor. you will also need a mounting kit. you can get this at like a circuit city

what's wrong with sony?i've had an xplod deck and 6x9's for like 5 years and not a problem.

I had a sony xplod deck in my 2.2, with 17's and lowered, alot of the bumps i hit made my cd skip, granted tho, i don't know how old the deck is because it came with the car when i bought it

Hmm its not really the durability as to the quality. Think of it like how some people like to have their music blaring, or want the extra bass, or what that crisp sound when its extra loud. And sony really isnt known or made for car accesories. It seems as if theyt just jumped in because they saw it was a profitable market. Im surprized someone like Mitsubishi hasnt tried to start making them, since they make tv's and all.

You need to get the wire harness for your car. Go to Best Buy or Circuit City. Then youre going to have to match all of the wires from the head unit plug to the wire harness, and either solder (best) or crimp them. But please dont just twist them together. When youre ready to buy speakers, Id highly recommend at least a good set of 2 way speakers, but preferrably a component set. You need an amp too. I think this the number one rule in car audio is do it right the first time There is a sticky in the car audio section that lists alot of good (and bad) brands.

the guy at the store said the old wire harness should work is this true. I looked on the back of wire harnesses at the store and didnt see chevorlet cavalier 1997 listed

i am also 16 and was dealing with what you are and this is what i had to do,
you need a wiring harness adapter, you also need an antena adapter and a mounting kit. and i would get a pioneer head unit if i were you, i have the 4800 and it has the aux input on the back and looks realy clean from the front cuz the wire comes from under the dash and hooks into my ipod from there, and pioneers have very good sound. and you should prolly steer clear of sony and dual cuz those are best buy and circuit citys lowest quality head units, but be carfull cuz they will do you like they did me and try to get you to buy those brands cuz those are what they specialize in

and if you get the head unit from best buy or circuit city they should install it for free, you just have to buy the parts and it will save you the head ache of wireing and mounting the unit

I had two sony xplode 12 with a 200 dollar xplode amp about a year ago and they hit for like 4 months. SONY stereo equipment sux azz. All you need though is a wire kit from wallmart for like 12 bucks. just follow the color pattern and thats it. Im bout to fix all the audio in my 97 cavi too. Pioneer all the way with some audiobahn flame qs.
