Electrical Problems

Got an 02 3.4L impala with 105K miles and when driving for a little while the turn signals just stop working and the only way to get them working is by turning the emergency signals on then using the blinkers. This problem started a couple of weeks ago and I really want to fix it myself any help appreciated. By the way my uncle also has an 01 impala with about 100K on it and is experiencing the same problems with his blinkers but to get his working he has to completely resart his car.

This is a very common problem... It's a bad hazard switch... The blinker is part of the same switch assembly... You need to replace the hazard switch assembly... Remove the dashboard trim panel, unplug the switch, remove the switch, replace with the new switch... www.impalahq.com has a good "how to" on removing the dashboard trim panel...

I am expirencing this same problem with my '01 Impala. I have gotten the Hazard Switch removed. However, I cannot find anywhere to purchase a new one. I have talked to all my local autoparts stores and none of them have them. Is this somthing I have to get directly through my dealer?

I also couldn't find it on any of the online places I tried, including RockAuto, which usually has everything... You might just have to go to the dealer for this...

I went to impalahq and looked under the "how tos", but could not find anything on removing the dashboard trim panel. Or is it the same panel you would have to remove if you wanted to replace your stereo?

As an fyi I replaced the hazard switch in my 03 without removing the dash panel. Just pop the button off with 2 small screwdrivers then the whole switch can be pulled out and the wiring connector disconnected. When you push the new switch in it will snap into place. Took 5 minutes or so!

Seriously? I need to switch mine out..but if that's all it takes then i will try it..i have an 00' so i am assuming it would be the same..

Yeah, at least for me it was that easy. With 2 small screwdrivers I was able to pry the black button off. Then I slid the screwdrivers down either side of the switch to release the lock tabs. I was then able to pull the switch out and there is enough wire to disconnect the connector.
Maybe I just got lucky!
