Hi Mr Bridger,
Colour Scheme ideas for your Rocket. If you are into retro, BRG with white stripes (old Coopers,Vanwalls etc) plus flying hat and goggles!! Or modern, liquid gold/orange with carbon guards.plus Simpson super bandit helmet.
Regards Le Man.....le man, told my ladyfriend about your "flying hat & goggles" idea...did"nt meet with much enthusiasm!...i loved it & had visions in my head of her looking like "gromet"s ears" in the back of it with hair flying all over the place!.........itww, i would imagine he (GM) must have felt like king canute at times trying to stem an inexorable tide rolling in!!....cabrio, nice list!...i very nearly bought a GT1 Porsche some years ago, i was put of it by its very small fuel tank...no range!, something like 120 miles,ludicrous,..i would rather have a rocket than the atom (i"m biased!!), so its a shortlist of a Zonda F or a Caparo...i think!,...ps/ yes the zonda (& enzo) has/have been to le mans several times, all fairly well documented on P.Heads site..allegedly!! thanks, mr bridger.

Mr. Bridger, is your Rocket one of the few brand new ones that Chris Craft is going to build after an absence of many years? (chassis # R039 perhaps ?)
I understand you're used to quite a bit in terms of sheer performance, but be prepared for a ride like nothing else! The Rocket is not faster than most of your other cars, but it will definately FEEL faster! (And isn't that what it's all about after all? :grinyes: )
Cheers, Ruben

Hi Mr Bridger,
Thank you for incredibly quick reply! Yes, I am on the Dutch website, which is hosted by a friend of mine, who is the current owner of # R029 (I sold it to him this spring), a true Rocket enthousiast, just like me. He is also trying to put together an owners registry on this website, would you and your friend mind registering by dropping him an e-mail? I'm sure he will be absolutely delighted!
Cheers, Ruben
PS as a Mini enthousiast (as well) for life I really appreciate your nickname :)

Mr Bridger. What do you think of the Edonis? :D

08-24-2006, 08:59 AM
Mr Bridger. What do you think of the Edonis?...chris, dont think i really like the look of it, looks a bit too "scoops, vents & sharp"...wasnt it based on an EB110 tub, with input from some of the original F40 designers?...saw a comparison of it once against the red GTR which the Mac won fairly easily, but in truth thats pretty much all i know about the car, although a friend of mine was in italy a few years ago with Casimo Nasole (the test driver) & he tells me its a real eyefull in the flesh so to speak, thanks, bridger.

Ok. I thought you'd think the same as most people. If i recall it had the EB110's engine but with only 2 turbos as opposed to 4, not sure about the tub. I think the team included various people from Bugatti, not sure about the F40 people, possibly Thanks

I'm almost 100% certain the EB110 engines were also quad turbocharged so wouldn't removing 2 mess it up somehow with the tuning? I'd think it would be a hassle with no better results.

Thanks for the offer Mr Bridger, i'm not that fussed, i was just what you thought of the car. I haven't seen it in the press for AGES. The only one i've ever seen is the red prototype
mr bridger

yep, it def. had 2 turbos..it was octane mag that ran the article, the car reputedly had 720bhp....& LOTS of turbo lag...thats a suprise then!!

As you guys already have read in Tims thread, that I met up with "Mr Bridger" at Donington Park yesterday. It was a great pleasure to meet up with an Automotive Forum member who actually owns an F1 (Now on his second version) He is also in possession of the worlds most expensive cigar cutter (see pic).
http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/9787/p8270001uc0.th.jpg (http://img244.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p8270001uc0.jpg)
I have full admiration for "Mr Bridger" who not only has a collection of highly desirable exotic cars, is that he uses them as well!! He is also a man of considerable driving talent, as ascertained from talking to him and his friends. When questioned about if he will take 16R to the track,I could see in his eye that he would love to. But the consequence of something unforseen happening, the car is to valuable to damage. He also noted that a well peddled lotus elise could probably see off the GTR on a "B" road, as the GTR has to much power and has a stiff suspension set up. We got onto the subject of the "Works" purple cam cover engines, lets just say the engine is producing more than enough power. When talking to "Mr Bridger,s" ladyfriend about which car she prefers, her reply was that she likes, the looks of the GTR, But likes the Enzo best. Also she is hoping that "Mr Bridger" adds a Zonda F roadster to his collection.(Perfect choice!)
As for 16R, the car was immaculately turned out. Although dressed in papaya paintwork and not in original race colours.(depends, which side of the fence your on) It looked perfect in the morning sunlight and is a credit to McLarens customer care department.
I would now personally like to thank "Mr bridger" and his friends, on behalf of my brother and from everbody here on the forum. For there time and generousity in talking about 16R and other car related subjects in general and also allowing for the following pics to be taken.
As for the 6hour race, Astons, Corvettes etc very good to watch, but no Mac,s (if only it was 95 again)
(Pics to follow shortly)

hi Mr. Bridger:
first of course, thank you for spending time sharing some of your experience with us, it is very nice of you.
just some quick questions about the F1---how fast have you gone up with this baby?
which gear do you shift to on highway? is it true for local roads first 2-3 gears will cover all your needs?
thanks.

Mr Bridger,
I notice from some of the photographs of your car it appears to have the original Suede GTR type steering wheel still in it. Can you confirm if this is so. I have seen a few GTR's and they seem to have steering wheels from various sources ie. Nardi, Momo, Sparco, Richfield etc. Out of interest what is the make of yours? I personally like the feel of the suede wheels yet they are aparently not recomended for road use, I assume because of them going shiny if used ungloved. Any thoughts on the subject?

hello guys, just back from short hols...firstly to le man, many thanks for a most flattering report, pleased you liked the car (s), & it was a pleasure to talk to you on sunday...xanaboy, i have run this car up to approx 190mph (on a closed racetrack of course!), & yes, most things are "taken care off" by using 7500 rpm in 3rd or 4th!!.....carbuilder, yes the car has a suede gtr wheel, personally i like it as it seems to grip better (over a leather wheel) should you develop sweaty palms...not that i ever do of course!...finally to own up to an embarrasing moment, it seems to be reported the car "broke down" on its way home from donington last wkend, not so really, its rather foolish owner managed to run it dry of fuel in an effort to get home quickly (i had a rolling stones concert to get to)...a friend brought me 2gals of fuel, where upon i drained the sm red top racing battery trying to pump the fuel thru...the recovery guys duly arrived with a truck,i left them the keys, they took me & ladyfriend to the concert & picked us up afterwards, then delivered us home (a very large thankyou to them)...after 10mins connected to the charger the car started...all"s well that ends well !!...thanks, mr bridger.

It's very cool to hear from you after seeing so many pictures and things about the car. And as much as I enjoy the Rolling Stones myself, if I owned an F1 I don't think I could hand over the keys to anyone just so I wouldn't miss the opening act :) haha, But since it seems to have turned out ok, I'm sure it worked out for the best!
Best,
Charlie

Hello Mr. Bridger and welcome. First I would like to say that the gods have definately smiled on you. Dual ownership! Secondly, the only car that would be a suitable replacement for the Zonda is um...well another F1! So what are you waiting for?
Cheers and thank you very much.

[QUOTE=mr bridgerCLK GTR, the flying car, literally!...a bit too big dimensions wise for me, similar to the XJ220 in that respect, thanks, mr bridger.[/QUOTE]
Im sorry you feel negative towards the GTR. The road version does not suffer anything from the race car other than excellence. Think CLK DTM with more power and less weight and much more nerdy :)
Get yourself a test drive. There is only 1 in the UK and he wont let anyone drive it[garage queen]. Promise me at least that you will try drive one before you spend any more money.

To be technical, the CLK-GTR (racing version) never flipped, it was the CLR. No road versions of that were ever made. ;)

Maybe some should read this before considering a MB CLK-GTR.
Car dealer sues Mercedes as $1.7 million CLK-GTR won't travel 10 blocks
LA based car dealer Mark Johnston bought the car of his dreams a Mercedes AMG CLK-GTR Limited Edition Roadster for $ 1.7 million. Only 5 of these speed machines were made and this baby had entered the Guiness book of records as the most expensive production car. Mr Johnston was the proud owner of the only CLK-GTR in North America. The silver AMG Roadster is a product of DaimlerChrysler’s long collaboration with H.W.A. and Mercedes-AMG, two German manufacturers of racing and high-end performance vehicles. But the car proved to be an expensive peice of scrap metal as after crusing in it for the first time after covering 10 city blocks the oil light came up which has not been fixed yet. After this the roadster’s transmission failed to shift properly. Additionally, the hydraulic jack system failed and the windows became unglued, Mercedes sent and engineer from Germany who dismantled the car and took with him a number of parts to Germany to never install them again.
When Los Angeles car dealer Mark Johnston forked over $1.7 million to buy one of only five special Mercedes Benz CLK-GTR roadsters produced in the world, he could not have predicted the long struggle he was about to face. Johnston claims he and his brother couldn’t get it to travel more than ten blocks. Accordingly, he has filed suit in Los Angeles Superior Court seeking a full refund from the manufacturer and its affiliates. The defendants named in the suit are DaimlerChrysler and its Mercedes-Benz subsidiary.
Mr. Johnston’s suit, brought by law firm Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P., accuses the defendants of breaching their contractual and warranty obligations to provide a defect-free car, in this case a Mercedes AMG CLK-GTR Limited Edition Roadster, which Mr. Johnston intended to sell through his dealership. The complaint also alleges negligent misrepresentation and breach of the implied warranty of good faith and fair dealing. Mr. Johnston seeks full reimbursement of the vehicle’s purchase price, along with the other costs incurred as a result of attempts to repair it.
The silver AMG Roadster is a product of DaimlerChrysler’s long collaboration with H.W.A. and Mercedes-AMG, two German manufacturers of racing and high-end performance vehicles. Only five of the AMG roadsters were reportedly made; Mr. Johnston owns the only one in North America. The AMG CLK-GTR is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most expensive production car ever made. The two-door sports car is made of carbon fiber monocoque with an integrated steel roll cage and front energy absorbing crash box. The 6.9-liter engine has a 12-cylinder, 60 degree V-motor, enabling the car to go from zero to 124 mph in 9.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 198.4 mph.
Mr. Johnston and his brother Ernest own Grand Prix Motors, a car dealership in the Mar Vista section of Los Angeles. The two former auto mechanics have extensive experience working on Ferraris and other top performing vehicles and are very knowledgeable about collectible cars. Grand Prix contracted to purchase the Mercedes AMG in 2002 for the hefty price tag of $1.7 million. Their intention was to sell the vehicle through their dealership, as they had done with other rare and vintage automobiles.
“The car was absolutely gorgeous and we were excited about offering what we thought was a true gem to our customer base,” Mark Johnston explained. “Unfortunately, the car turned out to be ‘exotic’ in the worst possible way. When we took it off the lot in 2004 for its first customer test drive, Ernie drove the car all of ten blocks with a prospective buyer when the oil light came on. We’ve been trying to get it fixed ever since, but the Mercedes folks have refused to stand behind the car as promised in our contract.”
According to the complaint, the roadster’s transmission failed to shift properly. Additionally, the hydraulic jack system failed and the windows became unglued. In 2005, the defendants dispatched a technician from Germany to examine the car in 2005; after dismantling it, the mechanic returned to Germany with a number of parts that were never reinstalled. Mr. Johnston asserts that the defendants later instructed Grand Prix to transport the non-working car to a Mercedes facility in Lake Park, Florida, which Grand Prix did at an additional cost of $10,000.
Although the Mercedes technicians determined that the car suffered an oil-pressure related engine failure and needed a new engine, the defendants were unwilling to make any repairs. The complaint asserts that the defendants were aware that several of the other Mercedes AMG roadsters in circulation had oil pressure-related problems.
“Mr. Johnston has exhausted himself trying to get Mercedes and the other defendants to recognize their warranty obligations,” said John O’Malley, the Fulbright & Jaworski partner in Los Angeles who is representing Grand Prix Motors. “You’d think you’d be able to drive a $1.7 million car more than 10 blocks.”
“We continue to be dumbfounded by the unwillingness DaimlerChrysler, Mercedes and the other defendants have shown in owning up to the problems of their vehicle — the other manufacturers we deal with would never operate this way,” explained Mr. Johnston. “It’s unfortunate the defendants have forced us to bring a lawsuit in order to have our contract honored. We obviously cannot sell the car in its current condition, which right now represents nearly $2 million of scrap metal.”

Hi Mr. Bridger,
Very intresting reading about your car and your opinions on other supercars ,
i think we have the same opinions on the Veyron  .
Now to my question , you dident by any chance vist Sweden with your Mac
in May? There are some rumors that a Papaya coloured McLaren did race a M3 in Sweden at that time. And the McLaren driver was wearing a Ferrari cap

Hi guys,
Hope you are all well.
Saw Mr Bridger at Donington again on Sunday, he did not bring the McLaren this time he bought another toy for me to have a look at.
http://www.dunlopix.com/P9244354a.jpg
I took loads of pictures of his Enzo and will post a link to them as soon as I have processed the images.
Also just heard from him today that he has got his Bugatti Veyron test drive booked for the 10th October. Can't wait to hear from him after he has driven the car to see what he thinks of it.
Regards
Tim

hi tim, actually i bought it 2yrs ago :grinyes: , nice picture, & i even managed to get this 1 home ok !!....as you have posted, the veyron gets an outing on the 10oct, so i will let you know what its like in comparison to the F1 etc...the guy who handles the sales in UK tells me he used to work for Mclaren, even that aside, he raves about the car, so i hope it lives up to his comments & my expectations...what i didnt realise untill very recently is that loris biocchi (from pagani development amongst others) did quite a lot of the handling/ride work on the car, perhaps this is why the veyron seems to be getting favourable reviews in this department (against enzo, carrera gt & zonda), not withstanding its considerable weight for a supercar...i will keep you posted ! .........hi phil, if i buy it, yes it will probably make its way to le mans no doubt....2 tone bugatti blue with anthracite leather & alcantara looks good on the spec page of bugatti web configuration, thanks, mr bridger.

Hello,
nice vid with the bugatti ! I know Etienne Bruet, the journalist on the video. It was difficult to have the world premiere on TV !
Do you recall the press test in Italy ? At the last moment, Bugatti canceled the test for TV shows and few time after, Etienne was able to be the first journalist to drive it and show it on tv thanks to more than one year of contact with the factory :)
He is not Jeremy Clarckson but he has a good feedback on the car and say me "sensations are like a formula one car..." ;)
Have a nice test Mr Bridger and welcome again in Le Mans ! And please for you make attention to do not reach 400kph and fly :(
the guy who handles the sales in UK tells me he used to work for Mclaren
Hmm, a simple question : he is not David Clark ?

hi phil, thanks for that, it sounds like your journalist friend was impressed with the veyron...dont worry about the 400kph runs though, i cannot afford to keep paying for your gendarmes xmas parties....the head of sales is most def.not mr clark :nono: , but another ex employee (J.M.) its not really up to me to give his name out, but it wouldnt be hard to find should you really want to!...thanks, mr bridger.....ps/ greg, dont worry, i"m def from this half & not the other half originally!!....

hello mr bridger, ive not posted in this thread before but have followed it with great interest.I hope you like the veyron and decide to get one, that must be really nice to be able to look at the configurator and actually be looking for real, instead of just dreaming like the rest of us!
I personally went for purple body with white or gold sides and doors but was only dreaming.(luckily i hear you say, i know slightly over the top but quite good looking.... try it out)
If you decide not to get one , i believe you should still consider the clk gtr (coupe) its allot closer to the race car experience that your F1 gtr gives you, and of course rarer than the veyron (i believe there is only 1 in England) so should hold its residual value better.
I know there was the bad story about the roadster in the U.S. but dont forget that car was worked on unofficially when imported to the states in order that it complied with U.S laws, and hence that has voided any warranty. I also know of one in Florida which has done over 24,000 trouble free miles.
I know you stated earlier that the wide cars like the xj220 are not to your liking, but the clk is particularly special, and i assume you mostly use your cars on the track.
By the way which 911 gt1 did you look at? the white one at Talacrest or a 996 (1997) style one.
Thats me done at the moment, except to say id love to meet you and photograph your cars one day, as im a hugh supercar enthusiast, like Mr dunlop.
oh one last thought have you considered a Koenigsegg? id be interested to know your thoughts on it.
Cheers Alan W

Cheers Alan W morning Alan, please dont set me on with the colour configurator again, i nearly wore it out first time trying to choose!...the merc i still think is just too large, yes i like to "track" cars but also i do use them on the road, & its def. too big for that, much like the xj220...i used to own the yellow xj220s (ex TWR car) & it really belonged in the bus lane to get around anywhere in it!....the GT1 was the development car guy had @ talacrest, 1 of the 2 early cars i understand?....re the "egg", the business man in me keeps saying avoid at present due to unsafe residuals & lack of history, not the cars fault i acknowledge but me being a coward probably...& its "only" got 8 cylinders & supercars should have a minimum of 12 so they say!?..:lol2: , ...hopefully we will meet up at a race meet one day, thanks, mr bridger.

Thats me done at the moment, except to say id love to meet you and photograph your cars one day, as im a hugh supercar enthusiast, like Mr dunlop.
oh one last thought have you considered a Koenigsegg? id be interested to know your thoughts on it.

hello all, had a nice holiday, lovely weather etc..in fact only 1 thing made me want to return to this cold damp country...so lets move right along shall we!...it (veyron) has enormous presence in the flesh when viewed for the 1st time, especially when seen next to "normal" vehicles & i was amazed at how many people actually seemed to know what it was (in london), judging by the amount of mobile phone cameras aimed at it as it passed (very :banghead: ) slowly by in city traffic...the car behaves impeccably in town, more like a saloon car than road rocket, the gearbox is a wonder, the ride slightly firm but not unduly so, cd player/radio on, air con on, all very normal...we eventually arrived at the bottom of the M1 motorway...& a straight (emptyish) bit of tarmac :grinyes:...now i presume we have all been in passenger jets, where the pilot slowly taxi" from apron to runway, turns the last corner &....well forget that because the veyron has already left & is at 20,000ft, even whilst only using 800bhp, accompanied by what sounds like a strange cross between a turbine/jet/merlin engine...i couldnt quite figure out which it was whilst trying to focus on things around me that were happening at what seemed like warp factor 10 scotty!...its bloody quick in a straight line for sure!!...next came the A road to aylesbury if anyone on here knows it?...similarly dispatched with nonchalant ease at faintly ridiculous mph considering damp roads & other vehicles, not at all dangerous i MUST stress as this vehicle just seems to have SO much in reserve (the charming gentleman alongside me estimates we got no more than 70% from the car), the acceleration, brakes, handling, ride quality are all a revelation i kid you not...the build quality is exceptional (as it should be), not a creak rattle or groan from anywhere on the car...2hours we were out,it felt like 20mins..if that makes sense!...during the drive my co-pilot told me the veyron is assembled by various engineers from the le mans audi R8 / R10 programme (built next door), perhaps this should explain things then!....now fundamentally this is an F1 forum,so whats the (my) verdict?..well compared to "my" car, they are chalk & cheese in character, the GTR is very "raw", the veyron very civilised..BUT to me they both look fabulous, they both "go" like the proverbial wind, both handle on a different planet compared to most other cars, both have build quality expected (& demanded) of cars with this price tag, & yet they are so very different in the way they go about things!...the GTR is to me the ultimate 2hour adrenelin rush, the noise, the sensations etc etc, the veyron is a car you could happily cover huge distances in & arrive reasonably "fresh"....would i buy one?....does anyone want an enzo !! mr bridger. ps/ any questions, fire away & i"ll do my best!!

Great write up of your drive mr bridger! I somehow knew you'd get one, but didnt you get rid of the zonda to make way for something else, and now youre ditching the Enzo too? although i suppose one Veyron is about the price of 1 Enzo and 1 Zonda combined!!
I know that most here will be pleased its the Enzo your ditching and not the Mac!
p.s. do you think you'll track the Veyron? or is it too civilised for that sort of thing (im assuming you are getting one!)
