Here is what im pulling up on my 1998 Windstar 3.8L Does anyone know how to fix or troubleshoot this? Thanks - JT
P0460 - Fuel Level Sensor Circuit Malfunction The PCM monitors the fuel level input (FLI) circuit for electrical failure. The test fails when the signal moves outside the minimum or maximum allowable calibrated parameters for a specified fuel fill percentage in the fuel tank.

Could be a bad ground...probably on the fuel level sender unit. Could be the fuel sender is faulty or gunked up with something. Might have something to do with float? - doubt it. Is the fuel gauge giving bad readings? Before I pulled the fuel sender....I'd clear the code...top gas off and watch the gauge/CEL for awhile. Also, I use the trip odo as a backup fuel gauge.

Could have been a temporary bad signal condition. Try clearing the code with an actron OBDII reader (autozone will do it for free). Then watch it. If the fault is still there, code will come back...I think it's ~ 3 cold starts later.

I cleared it and at 24 miles it came back. Ford dealer leaked me some info regarding a module behind the stereo that controls fuel issues. They said super common and have replaced a ton on these windstars. He is faxing me info in the AM. I will let ya know what the outcome is. thanks - JT

i know this is way old, but in searching it was the closest to my issue. i hope the OP had some more thoughts as to what he found.
on mine... 2002 cargo, 3.8L, 151k miles. just had this P0460 come on today. tank at half full. only code pull with my AE software.
my only info to add is that about 1500 miles ago (3 months) i went to only filling up with 91 octane ethanol 0 (ethanol free).
