171/174 code fix issues

I’m in the process of changing the isolator bolts on my ’00 Windstar and have a question.
I am going to modify my valve cover instead of buying a new one. It looks too simple to do and it seems like a waste of $$ to buy a new one. Im’m having a problem though. I don know how the valve cover is modified. Looking at the photo on http://www.miracerros.com/mustang/pcv_filter.htm (http://www.miracerros.com/mustang/pcv_filter.htm), it appears that the Mustang baffle is a mirror image (reversed) of the Windstar’s. (is this correct or has the Mustang’s baffle pic been accidentally flipped). If the Windstar and Mustang baffles are reversed from each other, I will assume that I need to bend up the small tab on the left of the large one, then notch out a section on the bottom left near the corner with the large radius. This is opposite of the Mustang's. Can anyone confirm this?

You're right; I hadn't noticed before: The Mustang and Windstar valve covers are very similar - but not the same.

I took a picture of my old-vs.-new valve covers when I did my isolator bolt fix. Take a look at the 4th picture in this album:

Hmmm - annoying: My picture didn't quite catch the edge of the baffle where the notch is (but I recall the notch being there).

Your modifications look just right. That's exactly what I'd do.

Well, the dang engine light came on again. This time, it’s the P0401 code everyone says to expect. So, I guess I’ll need a new DPFE. The one on the vehicle now is the aluminum one. I took it off and drilled out the rivets. When I took it apart, it was full of moisture and corrosion. All the wires seem to be attached but the little circuit board looks “burned” in one corner. I’m going to clean it up and put it back together but I think it will be fruitless.

Does anyone know if AutoZone, NAPA, or Advance Auto carries these? I’ve heard that the Dealer has them for about $80.00. Just trying to save a little!!

Got 2 of my replacement DPFEs at autozone for about $60 each.

It it's any consolation, the same thing happened to me: Just a few weeks after doing the isolation bolt fix, the van threw a DPFE code.

I replaced mine at Autozone. No problems since.

Yeah, I drilled mine apart, too. Full of corrosion and gook...

Well, it still didn't work, so I went and got a new DPFE from Advance Auto. It was $60.00, but it made of aluminum. I called Auto Zone to see if they had the plastic one but they would have to order it. I'm out of time because I'm leaving on a 2 week trip tomorrow. So I put the aluminum one in and all seems well (for now). I have about 10 starts on the engine and the light has stayed off.
I think I've got this thing wooped!!?
