Hey guys i'm new to the forum but very glad I found it!!! My wife just bought a 2000 impala and everything is cool but this afternoon i moved it and was messing around revving the engine. I quickly noticed that the rev limiter was kicking in @ about 4200rpms. Has the timing belt slipped or something else? It just got a tune up last week and has been very well taken care of. (we know the previous owner very well). Well... since my wife drives like a grandma she never noticed this, not to mention we have only had the car for a week. any help here would be greatly appreciated.

If this 3.4, then there no timing belt, only timing chain wich you cant ajust. Probably you have problems with IAC or TPS sensors. Or simple something stuck on your gas pedal connections with throttle.

That's normal, it is your rev limiter, its supposed to kick in at 4 grand, same with driving in reverse, only can do 4 grand.

you can play with it all you want, all your getting out of that car while it's in park is 4 grand.
