Motorsport Folder Competition Non-poll - CLOSED

Okay time to run a poll to decide the nature of next year's competion, except this one isn't a regular poll. Instead I'll ask everybody to pick their three favourites out of the following list and post such in this thread. I'll let this run for about a week, tally up the results and finish with a favourite that will be the theme. If you don't want to announce your preferences publicly, then PM me your choices and I'll keep it a secret. :)

1. Alcohol/Tobacco – And any other banned sponsors. Must be a major sponsor.

2. Formula One – Big wings and wheels in the breeze. Will also include other open wheel series.

3. 1970s – any car that raced or rallied in the decade that was the magnificent Seventies.

4. Phantom/Fantasy cars - ???

5. Champions – Race and series winners.

6. Production Based – If this is chosen, I’m going to be bloody-minded and build that Brabham BMW F1 turbo!

7. Same Car - We all build a different variation of the same car such as Porsche 917 or Subaru Impreza.

(but just a question concerning rally cars: is this only rallies winners or championship winners on any rally ? I think this has to be rally winners but what about championship winning car, shall we build the rally where it get the title even if it hadn't won or build a rally where it won even if it was before getting the title ? - maybe a strange question but I am wondering that ! :screwy: )

1. Alcohol/tobacco (that might give me just enough push to do something to my Martini Lancia S4 project...)
2. Same car (But how to choose? I think it has to be something with many different choices for liveries... Fujimi 917, Revell Escort(?), Tamiya Pug 206, Corolla, 993GT2?)
3. Production based (Is a homologation special considered a production based car, like Group B rallycars for example? This would give a possibility to build both track and rallycars)

I can't promise to enter the competition but I sure would like to... But I'd had to build something first ;)

Hello All,

My first post to this site. I have been modeling for more years than I care to admit and am amazed at the builders on this forum. Great work everyone! My vote would be:
1.) Champions
2.) Alcohol & tobacco
3.) 1970's

So no matter how this turns out, if it's gonna be 1 of these 3 I can always enter my 1978 JPS Lotus...

We have a very clear leader so far, namely Smoking and Drinking.

To answer a few questions. Yes, F1 will include all open wheel, single seater racecars/dragcars. It is just quicker and cooler to write "F1", although the need for this reply negates that - doh!

Champions is anything that won anything, single race or completed championship. A model of Tommi Makinen's 1998 RAC rally Evo V on three wheels would be eligible, because even though he crashed out, he still won the title that year. However, if you want to build a 2005 Subaru Impreza it would have to be an event like Mexico that Solberg actually won.

Production based could be anything, MPWR suggested retaining the factory glasswork, but I like my stock block Brabham BMW F1 turbo. :)

As promised I'll let this run to the weekend, so more people can have their say if they wish.

I like all of the choices, but these are my top 3 favs that I'd definately build for.

Everybody has had the opportunity to have their say and it's time to close this sucker. It will will be no surprise to discover that Alcohol and Tobacco is the winner for our theme next year. Just for the record the (valid) votes ended up like this:

Alcohol and Tobacco - 31

Formula One - 21
Champions - 20
Same Car - 19
Production - 13
Phantom - 7

So thanks to Sasa who first voiced the idea and now we can all start planning our builds. Given that 1970s and F1 were next in the poll they will be the frontrunners for subsequent comps.

If you are forward thinking then the perfect model to start building now would be a race winning, 1970's Formula One car, sponsored by a cigarette company! Should allow about three years build time with a safe bet it'll be covered by a theme whenever finished. :)

Now the difficult task, what to build? So many choices, Martini or Marlboro? my favorit choices :D

No shortage of finding a suitable model though… Nearly every company that sells alcohol or cigarettes are keen to push their wares using fast moving vehicles, and the wealth of aftermarket decals, and even kits sold with alcohol sponsorship is huge..

So, should see a few entries this time around..

OK, my barely started 80-s contest model is eligeble for this one as well, so I guess that means I get another year to finish it! :D

Do we build under the influence of alcohol? Or do we build a model influenced by alcohol companies and sponsors?

Just one question, I assume this means that the MAIN sponsor must be alcohol or tobacco related right?
