With regards to A/T, must it be the product logos on the car or can we build the non-tobacco version? Im torn between Senna's 1993 Donnington car (w/o Marlboro) or finding something else ;)

A question now that will probably be answered when the rules are posted...
What's the ruling on building a car which has a tobacco company as a main sponsor, but has had to remove all sponsor names due to specific country laws?
For example some races in F1 require no tobacco sponsor names on the cars, but I'd still love to build a recent Renault, McLaren or Ferrari if possible.
Can we have like a "special dispensation" to do these cars which you can't get the sponsor name decals for?

I guess it probably is something to be discussed/decided sooner rather than later.
My interpritation of the contest is that if it doesn't actually say Marlboro or West or Mild Seven, it's not a tobacco scheme and doesn't belong. Especially since you can get aftermarket tobacco markings for recent Ferraris and McLarens (and I expect Renaults, but I haven't checked). Most people building tobacco schemes are going to have to buy decals aftermarket (unless you have some pre-ban kits in your stash). If you can't get aftermarket markings for a particular kit there are many other kits for which you can, and modern F1 is represented pretty well by decal makers.
Thoughts, opinions?

Nooooooooooooooooo! I'm happy by the result and... I realized that I'll submit my 80 contest entry!
How do you think Phil? My Montecarlo (s) are sleeping unbuilted in theyr boxes: the only job is that I done my own PE set (so like all of you purchase one, not more I guess). Only thing I'm planning to build two at the same time an one would be in the "zebra" red/white lancia's livery. Obviously I'll submit the martini stuff as my entry.
What do you tink guys? I guess I deserved a "NO" becouse I haven't finished (started ;) ) my entry in time but... at least I had a good reason: I spent all my time in teh PE set design (and at least I've it in hand now)
Last question: Phil gave already his opinion around the topic but I want to be sure: a phantom tobacco racer like a LUKY NSX or a JDaniels F575 is allowed?

I agree. The need to purchase AM upgrades was my only problem with this theme - some might not b able to carry the extra cost. But it seems reasonable that to enter an A/T contest, your build needs to display reevant markings.
I'm the same as Gio in everything he wrote except it wasn't PE parts with me :D

I have several Tamiya kits which came from the factory with the correct Tobacco markings - admittedly they are 10 year old kits, but you could build them OOB without AM upgrades.

You're right: lucky man!! Here in Italy we say "Not all the pains come to hurt" but since you speaK a wonderful Italian is "Non tutto il male vien per nuocere"
I guess the only way to beat your model is...:naughty::naughty::evillol::evillol::grinyes: :grinyes: J/K

Hi guys,
I don't really agree with you guys about the tobacco/non tobacco markings.
A non-markings tobacco version (as the marlboro stripes for example) is part of all tobacco markings you can find on the cars, and reducing entries only to cars having the original markings would make us miss some great possibilities on my opinion...
for example building a tobacco Monte Carlo rally will reduce the car to be the one from... the start/ending podium or service park... :screwy: :frown:
but on the other hand the "pleasure" of such a subject would mostly be seeing cars with original tobacco markings... :naughty: :grinyes:
I finally think that this choice (original or non tobacco markings) should be the one of the builder; we all know that without laws on it all tobacco cars would have their original scheme.
that's my opinion, to accept alternative tobacco markings (stripes, squares...) in the entries considering they are part of all tobacco possibilities. :)
Bye
Phil
(I didn't wonder it to long, I've just started my model, a "real" tobacco one ! don't want to miss this contest after 80's failure :p )

I'm also leaning with accepting builds which have the relevant colours, squares or stripes of tobacco companies. I do have a kit in mind which I'd REALLY love to build for this contest, but as it's recently released I can't see there being any aftermarket decals for it anytime soon.

Sure, everything goes, why not??!! :dunno:
Why even bother do decide on a category if people aren't going to keep to it? :disappoin
Why not do a Ferrari from Monza 2001?
http://b.f1-facts.com/ul/a/341
Sure, there are no tobacco logos on it (or any other logos), but we all know its painted in Rosso Scuderia Marlboro, so that's close enough right?
Hey, the '06 McLaren's and Renault's still have the same colors as they did when they had West and Mild Seven sponsorship, too!...

The '06 Mclarens would still qualify under the 'Alcohol' segment, not to mention they're not the same livery as when there was West sponsorship.

The team defending the championship this year is still Mild Seven Renault F1 Team.

Just one question: Is this (http://www.barchetta.cc/Common/Images/Scans.Schlegelmilch/F1.98/XLarge/LeMans98-016.jpg) enough to be a tobacco sponsored car? If not, tell me a ,non F1, preferably Le Mans Ferrari that has tobacco or alcohol sponsor. And this time make it a one that doesn't have to be completely scratchbuilt :banghead:
edit: Ok, i found couple of them. Maybe i can finish something this year.

To clarify some points. The whole idea of Alcohol and Tobacco as a theme is that the major logos and names on the cars will be Alcohol and Tobacco companies, clearly visible as such and not restricted by advertising laws. Choosing a race that the cars were forced to run unbranded in will not fit that theme. In many cases aftermarket decals will be required to fill in the gaps.

As some of you may have noticed I really don't have the time for AF anymore. Somebody else interested in running this? Or shall we let it die?

It's a shame Phil.
I guess I'll have the same (busy) trouble but I like this contest still alive, I love the theme though.
If someone would do a team togheter to manage it I'll do my contribution.

I sure hope, we will see you around!! As I competed in the last two years, I would like this contest to happen!

Tobacco, excellent! Now to decide whether to build a Peter Jackson DR30 Skyline Group A or a Winfield R32 GT-R Group A... :D
