Add a Supercharger - 2002 LS

I bought my 02 LS almost 2 years ago with 30k miles on it. I'm sitting at 73k now with no major problems yet...I do quite a bit of automotive repair on the side and have always kept up with the maintenance. The only non-maintenance item that has failed has been the crappy catalytic converter which GM repaired under the "extended" warranty.

I'm currently running some simple mods on my 3800 Series II...CAI with K&N filter, high perf wires, optima yellow top, and Castrol Syntec. Nothing serious!! The engine performs well but obviously has a lot more potential. I've considered a high flow exhaust/manifold, etc but I believe I'd like to start with the OEM supercharger. I've got the opportunity to buy one that came off of a 3800 Series II with 27K miles on it for $400...not a bad deal!! It is the supercharger only!!

Has anyone here ever attempted to put the OEM supercharger on their 3800? Does the PCM need to be modified (new burn) or replaced? Does the stock 3800 II fuel delivery setup provide enough PSI? Does anyone sell a modification kit? I don't really want to jump into ripping my daily driver to pieces without as much info as I can get!! Any advice, suggestions, experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't recommend putting a supercharger from the L67 (3800 series II supercharged) onto an L36 (n/a 3800 Series II), as the L67 has different heads, pushrods, etc.designed to handle the boost from the supersharger. Also, it would be difficult to integrate the charger into the belt system, as normally it is part of the belt, whereas there is no where to put it on the L36. However, there are aftermarket superchargers, but I have no info on reliability and installability.

Don't do it. Just buy a used L67 and do a motor swap, much easier and cheaper. Reasons:

Like phewop said, the ehads and internals are stonger, so you would need those off the L67 as well, along with a lot of other things.

You will kill your tranny. The SS has a HD tranny, your L36 does not. you can just get an upgrade kit for your tranny, but that's another $550.

Getting it to work will be no problem, the L67 is the same motor as the L36, so there will be no cause for concern with adding a belt. you will just need the larger L67 belt, to make up for the extra room/slack needed to add that additional pulley.

If you want to go ahead with this and get a supercharged version of the motor, so to www.l67swap.com, there is a lot of info that you will need there.
