Replacement brake pressure switch

The cruise quit working some time ago on my 98 so I replaced the brake pressure switch and everything was fine. The cruise has quit working again now 6 months later, and again the pressure switch is bad. I disconnected the switch and jumped the wires and the cruise works. Is there any good reason to replace the switch yet again? It was a $25 part and is now out of warranty. I'm thinking I'd rather just leave it disconnected and not have any fire risk and do without the backup method of disengaging the cruise. What's your opinion?

But if you have an emergency braking event .... what happens to the cruise command?

The brake light switch would disengage the cruise. The brake pressure switch is just a backup for the brake light switch. Either one will disengage the cruise control. Ford engineers added the brake pressure switch in case the brake light switch failed. I'm thinking they're regretting their design given the number of Ford vehicles which have gone up in flames due to the poorly designed pressure switch. I've never had a brake light switch fail on any vehicle ever. I've had two pressure switches fail on this single vehicle.

So you are accepting one small risk, to eliminate another larger risk ...
I can't argue with your reasoning.
