Regular beams work fine. When I attempt to turn on the hi beams, however, I lose the headlights completely.
So far, I have checked the small fuses, checked the bulbs, and replaced the multi switch.
Any thoughts?

Did you check to see if you have power at the plugs to the bulbs?

The light bulbs should have two small wire coils, or filiments, inside the bulb. One coil is for low and the other is for high. If you can only see one coil inside of each bulb it means that the high beam coil is burned out.
The bulb may look clean and clear, no burn or soot marks, but if no or both "coils" aren't in the bulb then they won't work. You could have had a voltage surge in the system that burned out both high beam wire coils the last time high beams were used.
Also, if you install new bulbs, take care to leave no fingerprints on the glass of the new bulbs. This (oil) will cause them to burn out in a short time.

On my 98 it turned out to be the Hi/Lo switch in the turn signal switch. Search this forum for my instructions on how I repaired it.
