I just quickly glanced through the american and european threads and didnt see this car in any of them. Taken by a fellow teck guy who was on the players run, the front plate looks familiar though.

Well it's not really a new one, but I only learned two days ago that this car had made it to the USA, so I have not added it to the American fleet thread yet.
This is chassis #011 - one of the best looking McLaren F1s in the world to be honest, though I'd make some changes in the interior if it were mine.
Great scoop btw - you get   from me. :grinyes:

Hi Phil-
The F1 was not seen at the start or any of the other junctions on the tour to my knowledge. It seems to have shown up at one of the stops in Colorado - either Aspen or Denver. We'll know more soon I am sure.
Edit: It was Aspen.

He is on the billionaires list for the state he is from though.

That time already? :grinyes:
The owner's name is John Stanton of Seattle, WA. There's a lot to read about Mr Stanton on the web as he's been a powerful and important figure in the developing wireless communications industry in the USA and abroad for several decades. He's a self-made billionaire who seems to be highly respected in his industry. Here's one of the better articles on his career and some of his successes:
http://www.bizjournals.com/portland/stories/2005/07/18/focus6.html
Incidentally, he's pictured at Starbucks in front of his laptop in conjunction with his role as Chairman of T-Mobile USA, who most will know have struck a deal with Starbucks to provide wireless hotspots at all of their locations. I thought someone might be able to piece something together using that image. While it was a little vague, I thought it was more intriguing than a simple headshot would have been.
My source this time was one of those shot-in-the-dark notes sent out to a person I'm familiar with, but who I've never spoken to before. I thought they might know the answer and it paid off for the most part as they were able to provide the owner's first name, where he lived and a comment that he was the founder of Cingular Wireless which turns out not to be the case. This person also mentioned that #011 is registered in Oregon although the car is kept in Seattle most of the time. It turns out that Cingular is a company Stanton has done business with, but never worked directly for based on my reading this afternoon.
While it wasn't all the right answers handed to me on a platter, there was still enough detail to allow me to put the pieces together and fill in the blanks. Then the photos I found of Stanton matched up well with the gentleman standing by the car in Aspen.
That's how it's done folks. :sunglasse

Another individual suggested this morning that the owner of #011 might be a man named John McCaw.
Interestingly, they share the same name, the same location of Seattle and also the same industry which is wireless communications. Besides the new tip I received this morning, there are two things about McCaw that make him a more likely candidate for ownership of #011. The first is that he owns a ranch in Medford, OR which ties in with the Oregon reg plate that #011 supposedly wears. The other is that he's definitely more involved in the car collecting world, with several classic Ferraris, a Ford GT-40 and even an old McLaren Can-Am car having passed through his hands.
Strangely I still think that the gentlemen in the photo behind #011 could be Stanton, and maybe it is. He could have been there in another car or maybe if the F1 is indeed McCaw's he could have let Stanton borrow it. The two have worked closely together in the past with Stanton serving as CEO of McCaw wireless working with John's brother Craig, and Stanton also purchased a stake in the Seattle Mariners baseball team from John McCaw at one point.
While I am leaning towards certainty that Mr McCaw is the real owner of #011, I'm going to change the American Fleet listing to simply "John" for now until I can settle this without any speculation involved.

Roy might know a thing or two. I believe all the cars that participated had those numbers on the side, as well as lots of other stickers. In the first shot of #011 in the slideshow you'll see it has no stickers at all.

Lots of involvement with racing in the family too with brother Bruce having owned the PacWest CART team back in the early 90s plus racing some vintage McLaren Can-Am cars and brother Craig backing an America's Cup team.

The owner is not the guy in the picture. John drove the car. He brought several cars on the run. The first day he drove a black 959. The second day he drove a yellow GT2. I think he drove the F1 a little on the way to SLC as I saw some pictures that were not from the Aspen to Denver drive. The car was outside with a cover on it for the night before the drive from SLC to Aspen. However, it was raining really hard in SLC, so he switched to his GT2. I think the guy in the picture in Aspen (not with the laptop) and in the picture in Pebble Beach takes care of the cars. I saw him at all stops where John was. He was wearing a shirt with "Cavallino Holdings, Ltd." embroidered in the chest most days.

I also heard that the current owner has had the car since the Christies Auction in 2003. I'm actually surprised this is the first time this car has appeared unless he only recently brought it into the USA or it has been a garage queen since it got here. :dunno:

In the first PM you asked me to keep the info you shared to myself, but you didn't tell me anything that we didn't already know as John McCaw's name had been included in this thread since 06-14-2006, 02:44 PM and secondary confirmation of him being the owner of the F1 was posted here by 512 TR 06-16-2006, 03:26 PM - more than two days prior to me receiving anything from you.
The second PM you sent me on M3forum.net made no mention keeping anything to myself and simply contained that album link with the words "More pics in our PR gallery,". Even if you had asked me to keep that link private (which you did not), your request would have been far too late for that based on when it was posted by Rachel and when it showed up here.
I'm not going to tell you how to run your show, but last time I checked "PR" stood for "Public Relations". If you don't want the PR pics publicized that seems a little silly, but I'm not passing around anything that I didn't find on my own (and anyone else could have found on their own) nor that I was asked/told not to share. If you have a problem with that link being circulated publicly I suggest you take that up with Rachel.
Your implication of any wrongdoing on my part in this scenario is disappointing as I always use the utmost discretion when someone asks me to keep things to myself.

Brian - I think you are confused. :shakehead
I found the link to that page of photos in a post made by "Rachel" on 06-14-2006, 09:35 PM in the Teckademics East forum (here (http://www.teckademicseast.com/forums/showpost.php?p=449545&postcount=42)). I posted that gallery link in this thread on AF.com when I discovered it there on 06-16-2006, 07:43 AM.

I can vouch for Erik on this, he would never post something deliberatley that he knew wasn't meant to be posted.

I read through this thread and I find it pretty damn funny. You guys act like super slueths but then you don't bother to figure out the real facts.
PR (in the case of MY photo gallery/forum) stands for Player's Run. Why is that so hard to figure out? Those aren't official Player's Run or Public Relations photos. They're the photos that I took while on the Player's Run along with a couple others.
prova4re probably sent you the link after I made the page public because he has the decency not to share private photos without the owners permission.
Do I have the site password protected? No. I feel that people should be able to see more PR pictures because there is a definite lack of them available. Do I think you guys are going overboard? Definitely. I'm glad I don't own a car that turns people into stalkers. No wonder the F1 owner doesn't bring his car out often.

It doesn't really matter what PR stands for in this case. Your gallery was posted publically on another forum before it was posted here by Erik. I also have no idea what this means:
prova4re probably sent you the link after I made the page public because he has the decency not to share private photos without the owners permission.
So YOU made it public and you're mad because someone other than you posted it somewhere else?

Thanks for your input. :) I realized later on that PR prob = "Players Run" in this case, but didn't feel it was worth the effort to correct my post. :dunno:
As I explained - the link to your photos was made public days before Brian sent them to me. He's the one that decided to make it an issue without knowing the facts.
What we do here is no different than people who keep track of cars/owners of rare Ferraris. Why not go have a laugh at their expense. I'm sure some of the more notable Ferrari historians would laugh in your face if you referred to them as a "stalker". :screwy:

Trust me, I think a lot of the guys on fchat are crackpots too. My ex and I run kit car blogs and do a lot of research for a wide variety of clients but we don't go online posting people's names and contact information in attempt to violate their privacy.
But anyway, most stalkers don't think they're doing anything wrong either.

Its funny you think that. Telaio is completely different from fchat. It is private and the members make sure that the info doesn't leave telaio. Try to find me 1 instance of someone posting contact info on fchat. You can't. You know why? Its against fchat rules. Then again, when you research a particular car, do you search for a specific chassis #. I assume not because by your definition that would make you a stalker. Many telaio members aren't in it for the money like you are. They enjoy the cars. The thrill of the hunt and all that

Oh my goodness. What a sad little contribution our new member notmil0 is trying to make. :shakehead If you would have bothered to go a little deeper into what we post here, you would have found out, that we share whatever is in the public domain.
If you have a special car, but you don't want anybody to know that it is yours, or connect your name with it, then don't take part in these public outings. Man!
Moreover, a pity you also didn't bother to read Peloton's explanation, where he meticulously showed he only shared something out of another forum. :cya:
