Hi.I have a 1997 Corolla,108,500 miles(not even broken in yet!!).It was my mothers car,and it came from southern Missouri. No rust, plain jane car.I plan to drive it untill it falls apart. Also I had a 1979 Corolla, last year of the rear drives,Had over 250,000 on it(odometer broke).I drove that car untill it rotted so bad, that the car sub frame broke in two. After I sold that car,it ran for about another year, then off to the junk yard it went!!.After I pay off my second car (Monte Carlo),I am gonna get rid of it and buy another Toyota!!! Thanks...Diesel 1962

I just bought a 1993 Toyota Corolla LE with 150,000 miles on it and I am now beginning to see why Toyota's are so popular. This car with 150,000 feels tighter and more solid and is definately quieter than my aunts 1999 Cavalier which has about 120,000.

I have a '90 DX with 165,000, a '94 with 120,000, an '05 CE with 17,000 and, dressed up in Prizm duds a '92 with 92,000...all automatics. Very few bells and whistles on them. Almost as easy to fix as '56 Chevies..way back when. Can't beat 'em!

'95 Corolla -- 61328 -- still getting nearly 24-30mpg (Auto trans) -- K&N -- Only major work was an axle/CV-joint bent in a pothole - that little DOHC 1.6L 4afe isn't gonna smoke any tires, but it can run forever.

The Corolla was a "second car" until the price of gas passed $2.50 -- that put the fullsize V6 in the garage :)

'99 Corrolla with 176,000+ miles on it, but that may be all she goes. It seems my timing chain came loose, and allowed a valve to run into a piston. Damn intereference run engines, apparently this is a problem with this engine. (guys at work said they've seen three in the last year) But up until this problem, it was a trooper.

88 Corolla wagon, 231000 miles. Just bought it a little over a week ago. Engine still runs great. Body is still pretty solid too. I haven't had a car with a carburetor in 7 years so I hope it's not too much trouble in the cold.

164,000 miles on a 94 GEO Prizm. It is still a very solid car. I replaced the starter, alternator, motor mounts, and CV joints. I use 1 quart of oil every 2500 miles.

1996 DX 1.8 liter, 5 speed manual, 36-38 mpg with 181,000 miles. I use Mobile one 5w-30 oil and change every 7,000 miles. Daily commute 60 miles on rural highways. I add less than a quart of make up oil over the 7,000 mile change interval.

Will buy another when this one dies. I've looked at the new Rolla's and have been disappointed how the car is no longer a simple commuter car. I guess the buying public is demanding more options on the lower end of the Toyota lineup. I just love the simplicity of maintaining my older model and wonder if this simplicity will carry forward to the newer ones?

Needs new shocks. That's about it.

1991 corolla dx 5 speed with 180000 miles on the body and about 85000 on the engine from a junk yard when the last one blew up shoving a rod through the block. Other than that it still runs bran new and won't stop.

I have a '94 corolla dx, 1.6 L with 152,000 miles. In Jan. 2005 at 125,000 miles, the differential failed when my wife owned it because she failed to notice a differential fluid leak. She called Toyota and they gave her a $500 manufacturing coupon for a new one. She bought a 2005 Corolla.
I sold my 99 Mazda Protege for $4,000 and started driving the corolla after I had it repaired. I've driven it for almost 30,000 miles in a 1-1/2 years after the repair and working great, but will take it to a transmission place for a check up for my peace of mind. I've spent about $1000 in standard tune-up and repairs since. I will give it to my daughter when she turns 16. She is 16 months old!!!

My Corolla ('95 4AFE 1.6L DOHC-4) is still "young" miles wise (64469) -- just passed emissions today (dyno results follow):

HC 0.05, CO 0.4, NOx 0.54

Compare that to 2004

HC 0.13, CO 0.7, NOx 0.53

She's getting better... The only difference is 3 years and a K&N filter. :)

98 corolla VE with 235,600. still runs perfect, 30 mpg in the cold, 35+ when its warm. most ive gotten was 39 last fall, and that was with the car out of allignment and 2 of the wheels werent balanced, not too bad for a car with so many miles. just passed inspection and emmisions a few days ago, so its good to go another year.

225,000 miles on a 1994. Still purs as good as the day I bought 'er, more than 4 years ago w/ 155,000 (I expected to double the mileage of this car, so it was well worth the $3,000 to me). Only replaced clutch, fuel pump, & starter.

Used to get 35~38mpg with 5spd & stock wheels, but adding 17" rims dropped me down to ~26mpg regardless of city or highway driving. Shoulda bought the 15s!!

This thread makes me glad that I had my girl buy a 2005 Corolla. Sounds like it will practically last forever with just oil changes, brake jobs and tires. :)

It's a 2005 and already has 40k miles.

Now on the other hand, my 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix with 80k miles is already losing my confidence a bit with the ABS, Traction Control and SES lights on. :banghead:

I have a 1995 Prizm 1.6, 3 speed auto and it still gets 25+ mpg.
I have over 320,000 miles on it. I am not the original owner but I have had it for over 4 years now. The previous owner had the transmission rebuilt. All I have done is put 80,000 miles on it and change the fluids, tires, and the cv axles.
I am about to over haul the suspension as it is still stock!

I had an 87 Corolla 5-speed. It was rusted badly and I sold it when it had 240,000 miles. It was still going strong. I purchased a 99 Corolla with 118,000 miles.
Also, my wife has a 95 Corolla DX with 226,000 miles. It gets 30+ mpg consistantly, and it is an automatic. Not a spec of rust either. It looks almost as good now as it did when we bought it in '96!
I love the Corolla because it is a reliable, economic, fairly trouble-free car. I have also found that when I do need to work on it, it is fairly easy to work on.

I have seen your negative ads pertaining to Toyotas on several different posts. I don't know what happened to you that caused these negative feelings. As you can see, the general attitude is that people love them and drive them for many, many, years and miles.
You should be able to discern that no matter how good a track record a manufacturer has there is always going to be some sort of problem with something. A person losing an engine or transmission is something that happens. It is not worth bashing the manufacturer unless it has been a consistant problem over time.
What really interests me is the fact that you talk about "one yard owner". It is like this isn't even your own opinion but something you heard from some one else.
I don't know any Toyota owners who are unsatisfied and you are pretty much the only one bashing them in these posts. That speaks volumes for Toyota!

rockwood84
03-07-2008, 04:13 PM
all i can say is when you get ready to rebuild them nissans and yotas most of the time you can slap a set of original rings and bearings in as for some reason the metal does not wear down as american made motors.and this is with way over 200,000 on the motor.

I know the wrecking yard that easily sells the Corolla engines,Economy Auto parts in Muskegon,Mi and the owner Jimmy knows.Toyota is a money thief,They take the profits and retirement money over to Japan and that is 100% wrong. This is true of all forieghn car makers.Foreighn cars are very, very expensive to repair.Did you watch Extreme 4x4?They had a Toyota mini pickup with a junk 3.0 in it.Ian Johnson, one of the hosts said that they cannot keep waterpumps and head gaskets in them.A 350 chevy with a 700r4 was put in place of the 3.0 and looked better.

Over 155,000 on our 96 corolla DX. Great L'l car! We like everything about it except two things --- not enough leg room for people over six feet tall (like me), and not quiet enough on long trips.

Recently we were thinking about selling it (we're a one car family) and getting a Toyota Prius but we found out that the Prius will cost us twice as much more to drive per month due to the electric bill we'd have to pay for charging the batteries.

We're happy with our Corolla!!

We're happy with our Corolla!! you'll be happy to know that the prius is not a plug in hybrid. the batteries recieve a charge from the normal driving process. the only thing that will cost you more than twice as much is the overinflated price! mike

Sorry it took so long to reply. PBS had some college professor on saying that the oil inside the earth is running dry and all and hybrid cars are good except for the electric bill you would have. You're right though, by the time I pay off the loan, there may not be any gas left for anyone...(lol)!

Well after a 12 year relationship, some a hole decided that I don't need my corolla any more. 193,2xx miles the car was still running awesome. Only out of the normal wear was the differential. Easilly could have done another 100k. I wanted to replace it with another one, but due to the family growing, the Corolla was to small, so I got a Honda Accord. Honda is a good car, but the Corolla easily got better fuel mileage. RIP!

So I am going to drive it until it can't start ( Maybe it will never happen? :-). What a car! Maybe I will buy another car some day but I will still keep this car as a second car.
