theft lock radio

I have a 2003 Impala with theft lock, i believe. There is a red blinkig led on the radio when i turn the car off. I am looking in the service manual right now, if you know post it. How do you turn off theft lock, the dealer turned it on when new ??

If i disconnect the battery will the radio say locked ?

Run it back to the dealer and ask him why he turned it on without giving you the code.
A good dealer should take care of it for you for a small fee or no charge.

If you disconnect the battery they radio will not lock trust me I disconnected the battery many times. In only locks on the older models when you disconnect the battery on the new cars it doesn't.

The newer GM Theftlock system (starting in 2000 with the Impala) uses VIN assignment at the radio level. This means your VIN is stored in memory in the radio and loss of power doesn't affect it. You can take it out and sit it on a shelf for 6 months, put it back in and it will work like a charm. (Assuming you haven't had the car's computer programmed for an 'uplevel' radio in the mentime, of course.) When you run into an issue is putting it in another vehicle. Then, since the VINs don't match, it goes into LOCKED mode.

Theft Deterrent
The "Theftlock" theft deterrent system is a feature on all base and uplevel radios. There is no need to program a security code into the radio as in past model years. The theft deterrent system now utilizes class 2 serial data to determine if the radio is in the appropriate vehicle. Each time the radio receives the "run" power mode message, it compares the VIN information it has stored to the VIN information received from a module on the class 2 serial data circuit responsible for transmitting that information. If a mis-match occurs, the radio display will indicate to the user the radio is locked. Once this takes place, a DTC will set, the radio will not respond to any button presses and become inoperative. The two scenarios able to cause this condition are:
· A radio is installed from another vehicle.
· A module which communicates on the class 2 serial data circuit which supplies VIN information to the radio is replaced and not properly setup with the correct VIN information for that vehicle.
The only way to unlock the radio is by using a scan tool. Always refer to the table to diagnose the "Theftlock" DTC for further information.

Just changing battery should not lock it.
Is it working ok now?
Is it the stero disk radio or regular?
I do not know why dealer said he locked it or turned it on.
If it does get locked for some reason it will say loc or locked and you will need dealer scan tool to reset it.

Unless your dealer stuck a older/aftermarket raido in it no problem on battery disconnect.
But Go easy on them battery disconnects.
No need to do it on a fuel filter change.
But you might relieve the pressure on fuel system before changing it.
Saves getting gas in the old eyeball or up the old arm.
But the manual got it right the right one to disconnect always disconnect the neg. first and hook it up last.
