94 Sable Battery Light Problem

I have a 94 Mercury Sable with the the 3.8L V6 and there are about 115,000 miles on the car. The other day, I was driving and the red battery light started flickering and I could not figure out why. The flickering only lasts a moment and then goes away. This does not always happen when I am driving, but it normally happens when I put the car in gear and sometimes when it is changing gears. I check the battery cables and they seem to be fine. Does anyone have any idea what the cause of the problem would be?:screwy::screwy::screwy:

take the alternator off and get it bench tested at auto zone....flickering battery light usually means 1 or both brushes are excessively worn..

I had the same problem on my Sable, there is a connector with a single white wire on the top of the alternator that doesn't fit very snug, fixed that and no more flickering light

I have the same problem the light was flickering on and off mostly when I accellerated. I took your advice and the white wire was definately loose so i shoved it back in (it didnt seem to go in far enough by pushing so i pushed it in further with a screwdriver) now the battery light doesnt come on at all. Is there something i can do to check this to see if the problem is fixed? it would be nice if the light worked but im not that concerned about it? I pulled the white wire out and turned the the key half way the engine light came on but the battery light was still out. Is it possible to buy a new connector and are they generic?

Secondly, my temperature guage almost immediately after turning on (within a minute or two goes past overheating) its been doin it for a while im not to concerned about overheating its just annoying to look at. i heard that a hole in the rad hose may let air in and screw with the sensor, can someone confirm that that is probably the problem. I know the garage will do it but i want to know if it will really fix the problem
Thanks

Hole in the radiator hose will not suck air in, it will spew out radiator coolant instead.

However, on my vehicle, the same problem like what you are having and it come to find out that it was a failing alternator. You don't have to remove the alternator or battery to test it at Autozone. They can test your alternator and battery at the same time without removing it and have your vehicle running during test should show up if your alternator is failing.
