alright, i have a bad problem. i went to go through emissions today, and it failed horibly, like double the standard on HC and CO (HC is supposed to be at .8000 grams/mile and CO is supposed to be at 15.000 grams/mile). The cat is 5 months old, as well as plugs and wires. The check engine light was on and giving a code for O2 sensor, so i replaced it today, but it came back on. I went through again and it tested a little better, but its still pretty much doubled. I never erased the O2 code after I replaced it, should I try turning the codes off with a tester and do it again to see if that fixes it? or what?

First, what year/model is your Saturn, second, what was the exact code and third, just because the code description mentions an O2 sensor doesn't always mean to replace it.

a faulty ECT (which is very common) will also cause poor emissions. and the fuel trim should be reset atfer replacing the O2 or any major sensor, which is commonly automaticly reset when the codes are cleared, or at least on OBD2 cars

but would the coolant temp make it run that rich to fail that bad? i ran whats called seafoam through the motor and am going to put a fuel system cleaner in then go and see if that will temporarily fix it to pass, then idc what it says.
