Scratchbuilt. Mostly aluminum. A couple-few dozen parts and some wires and custom decals. Even has the shock absorbing mounts... - Mark

Absolutely bitchin'.
And for comparison's sake, take a look at how shi**ty my MSD box/wiring attempt looks compared to your masterpiece:

Don't put yourself or your workmanship down. That's very nice.
Your's looks like an MSD 5 or maybe a 6A box. If it has a rev limiter it's a 6AL.
Mine's an overkill 7AL-2. But then NOS in a 7 is overkill too... - Mark

Remember, his is double the size, Alvin.

Still, great work! This beauty is just... wow. You're really putting every single part from the 1:1 into it, just they're all 1:12. Have you thought about getting a real Seven and making it? You're old hat at this, by now.

You're not the first to pose that question to me... I hope to be in a real one today coincidentally...

Do you have anything stock in this model?

Stock? Barely. A few kit parts were kept, but modified or painted and detailed at the very least. I kept the kit's rubber tires and the springs for the shocks, and the steering shaft. Oh, and the right side body panel skin... - Mark

Hi Mark,

As sais a billion time before me, AMAZING! INCROYABLE!

What did you do about the chassis? Did you use the kit on or did you rebuild it?

Sorry if it has been asked before, but, could you post a picture of the entire car? But I guess you would prefer not to do it untill the end...

As you seem to be near of the end, what will be your next project? A 1:1 seven?

Could I suggest you something like the Tamiya Porsche 935 in 1/12 scale? Or an old Lotus 49 in the same scale?:grinno:

Anyway, thanks for sharing you work with us.

Respectfully,

Olivier

Thanks everyone.
I did use the kit's frame, but modified it and added details. There is no entire car yet, still building, but it does look like a car now. Engine and driveline and suspension are all there, but many details for them (lots of hardware) are still being made and assembled. The next sub-projects for it that I am working on are the Weber fuel injection and the dashboard.

I have been working on a real 1:1 Seven too. Not mine, but fun just the same.

Yes, my next projects, at least two of them are another Caterham 7, and a Lotus 7. 1/12 and 1/24 scales respectively.

I've already done a couple 1/12 Porsches, 934 and 935 and have the Lotus 49 kit, for later. I'll build the Lola T70 or MP4/6 before I do that one...

Stay tuned, more pictures soon. - Mark

It was cut off when we picked it up, something about title transfer, legal stuff. I guess they didn't have a wrench. We removed the rest later in two minutes, no harm to the C/F... - Mark

Absolutely stunning build, it is really starting to come together now. The only possible way I could see to make it better is some heat staining on the exhaust. Any particular reason why you have left them clean, or do you just prefer them that way?

They are ceramic coated. They don't heat stain.
I have them on my Z/28, in 5 years they have never changed in color.

Mark, which car are you going to build the T70 as? I only ask because I'm about to build mine as the Sid Taylor/Denny Hulme car. I'm having major problems finding period mech ref photos. I've located the present owner and even he doesn't have any!

Wow. Did you use an end mill to machine the slot? Are they threaded or dummy screws? I think the smallest bolt I've machined is about .030 and thats was a little challenging to keep from losing. Your screws look fantastic. Do you have scale thread lock for it?

Oh...do I win anything for guessing the right size? :icon16:

No, nothing high tech like that. Old school with an X-acto knife. I don't have an end mill that small.
Scale Loctite? Yep, but it is also called Krazy glue.
I can machine hex head bolts that small now, but this was what it asked for... - Mark

Not to be a stickler, but can you find those bezels in CF? I mean, if you've got enough money, anything is possible. But are these modeled after real parts or is this Seven a "Speed costs money, how much do you want to spend?" sort of car?

I was originally going to "only" put 6 small gauges in, but I made an extra just in case and found out it fit. Hey, Seven is better for a Seven...
Yes, they are all the same style, more of a radius than a bevel on the bezel. And yes there will be toggle switches (instead of rocker switches). And warning lights and a START button. The dash gets some padding on the lower "legs".
Machined the lenses yesterday, still working on the insides stuff, more pics later.
And "internals" does not mean they will work... - Mark

Serenity Now!

Been watching this for so long, and I just don't have the words to offer as a compliment. It is an amazing accomplishment already. The details never end. Let me know if you ever publish/sell a book on the making of this puppy, cuz I'd gladly buy it.

And let me just say...Thank You for sharing this whole build with us here at AF. I am certain that everyone that reads this post is learning something... (even if it's just an appreciation of what is possible, when you put your mind to it....)

Good luck with the rest of it. (going back to suck my thumb now....)

Hi Mark.

Since yesterday I've been reading this thread and the other "parts" threads.

The detail is just amazing but what makes you the most modelling passionate guy I've ever come across is that you build moving parts that will not move in the end and details that will be covered.

That is passion! (or crazyness, but hey... not that different)

Keep it coming, your 7 has managed to grab the attention of even my work colleagues, which are in no way into modelling.

Cheers,

Tiago

The gauges, going right to left, (right hand driver's perspective) will be :
Speedo (w/resetable trip meter), Tach, Vacuum, Water Temp, Oil Pressure, Oil Temp, Head Temp, Fuel Level, and Volt Meter. All mechanical except the Volt Meter, Head Temp and Fuel Gauge, which are electrical, but the fuel gauge is a 270 degree sweep like the mechanicals instead of the traditional 90degree sweep of most electrical gauges... - Mark
