Let me make him happy. I had the top down in my 95 and did some whooping on a Mustang (looked to be a 98 or 99) Pretty much the usual launch from a stop light for nearly half a mile before having to break for another stop light. Pulled a few lenghts ahead at the launch. Gained another to about the quarter mile and pretty much held it till we had to break.
So theirs your Import vs Domestic (Homeport - thats a funny idea) Now go read some of the other posts in here.

rite ?
used civic EG6 = 3000 which means 17000 to spend on parts !
I think i can make it go faster than the cobra with 17000 to spend on a turbo and engine
GT turbine HKS = 5000
Type R engine = 4500
Intercooler + dump valve +manifold + waste gate + exhaust + dials = the remaining 7500
now everyone shut up and be quite i could easily go over budget and about 1000 dollars would make the cobra alot faster .......

Ok, 10-15 grand...
Used CRX ('88-'91), $1500
Donor Integra ('90-'93) with running motor, $1100
Used DRAG turbo kit, $2500
HASport engine mounts, $300
Set of gauges, $200
Performance clutch, $300
Limited slip conversion, $250
Total, $6150
And you have a CRX running 12's easy
Spend the rest of that $3850 on some internals and nitrous and you have an 11 or 10 second CRX with cash left over.

Now don't take what I said about building a fast CRX to mean I hate domestics or anything. I think the Cobra is one sweet machine, DOHC, 4 valves per cylinder, independant rear suspension, and they look pretty badass. If I could afford the payments, insurance, and the cost to moddify one then I would love to own a Cobra or an SS or something. As it is my car is paid for (years ago :) ) and my insurance is less than $50 a month for liability (full coverage is only $85 i think). I will probably own a RWD V8 or turbo V6 powered car someday be it american or import but for right now my little 'rex will have to do, and if I can make it hang with a moddified SS or TT Supra then i'll be happy but will never claim that domestics suck.

i haven't got a problem my point is
CIVICS are cheaper so more affordable and if you had the same dosh as a Cobra you could make it go faster and have a bodykit or something ... i dunno its up to you isn't it?
and if you have a Cobra you could spend minimal money and get some larger gains
and it doesn't matter what it is its a question of your own personnal taste
(i am a hypocrite in this sense as i hate sunfires and Neons WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU MODIFY THOSE?)

If economics is the only deciding factor in what car to get and make fast, then lets all get civics. As far as reliable goes, I have not had one problem with my car. I suppose a new civic might last longer then a new cobra, over the course of 20 years, but, I would hazard a guess that with all the modding it takes to get a civic where a cobra runs stock, then the civic would probably have reliability problems.

Well the new cobras needed a super charger to make them where they are so i would think they wouldn't be super reliable either....if it was NA then its a different story. a civic can get a prelude engine in it or gsr engine and then a super charger to run mid to low 12's easy also....

They are very reliable, backed by a factory warranty. I assume that does not apply to the cheap used crx with turbo ect.. The new cobra has heavy duty parts to handle supercharger they even swapped in a cast iron block in place of the aluminium block. Thay had to be made strong enough to out last the warranty;)

I think the new Cobra's going to whoop some ass, factory supercharged means easy/cheap power gains with minimal effort. A smaller blower pulley, free-flowing exhaust, and a performance intake should have them running FAF in no time. Again, if I could afford the payments of a new Cobra, the insurance, and still have money left to pour into aftermarket parts then I would probably be at the Ford dealership bright and early tomorrow morning.

Its a serious, nice car. Test done by a mustang magazine had it running high 12s, bone stock on street tires. With just an aftermarket exhaust and cold air induction it dynoed a tad over 400 hp at the wheels. Pretty impressive on a factory car. Thats with the stock 9pounds boost, with the upgraded block and internals it could handle much more.

It is a nice car, but its kinda sad that Ford just can't make and engine that puts out high hp with out the supercharger...like a 350 LS1 those have something like 340 hp actual figues even tho it only says like 325, and the new camaro ss has ran the best time of a 12.8-12.9 if driven awesomly of course...i heard the cobra best time was like a 12.5 or 12.6 but with a super charger...what if that 350 was supercharged...it would be nuts in the 11's for sure....

I would agree. The SVT Lightning and the SVT Mustang are both supercharged. I just think it is funny that when Dodge releases the SRT-10 Ram. That thing will spank the crap out of the Lightning while being N/A, hell it will be running with the SVT Mustang. Then what is even better, when Dodge brings back the Hemi later this year. First it is going in the trucks but they have brought back the RWD platform in the cars so I am sure they are coming up with a car to put the Hemi in. What’s funny is the fact that is only a 340ci engine and they are looking at over 400 HP out of an N/A engine. Plus if you wanted to throw on an SC or TC you can take the boost way up without having to upgrade the internals or the block.

Well , its a limited production race model. They were being sold at dealers with a "finders fee" jack up to over a hundred grand.

never thought this thread would produce such a bad reaction. either that integra is fast enough to beat most domestics where i live and when i want to beat the serious guys i go home and get my other car

well actually 1 will for sure the integra might also
and that ohter car u may be wondering about is a 79 camaro z-28 with a 327 bored .30 over with ford flat top pistons and 11:1.1 compression running mid 11'swith no Nos

The camaro most likely would, in a straight line smoke me. Throw in some curves and its good by chevy. Your little integra does not have a chance though.

well as for the camaro yes thats what hte car was built for and in a staight line in the integra you never know however my guess is your cobra is running low to mid 13's and if im right it would be a good race and as for the corners your is a little heavier than the integra

actually they're not....i dont think u know what u r talking about. 275 HP and 325 ftlbs isn't what i call weak. The 93-97 lt1's are faster than all GT mustangs up to the 99-00 model. that's not even talking about when u start moding them. LT1 is a great motor

actually i do, and i was comparing the ls1 to the lt1, there is almost a second difference out of nearly the same size stock engine, therefore wouldn't the stock lt1 be somewhat weak?? not to mention, stock in my city most run low 15's stock.
