Another 98 SL2 with odd problems

I purchased this car used in 99 and have been having odd problems with it ever since. Nothing really worth following up on until now.
The big problem: today while driving in the rain with the lights and wipers on, I turned on the fan to defog the windows and the car just quietly died. The dash showed a bunch of warning lights but I can't remember what all of them are right now. The wipers still worked, not sure about the headlights. I pulled over, turned off the ignition, waited a few seconds and turned the car back on. Everything worked fine. I tried to reproduce the problem once I was closer to home and couldn't.
I've had a similar problem with the engine stalling when I turn on the a/c that my mechanic wasn't able to reproduce. That time I was stopped at a light and it only happened once. And now that I think of it, in both instances the recirculate and a/c buttons were pushed in. Not sure if that helps.
Other odd little problems:
The overhead dome light only works for mechanics checking out why the light doesn't work.
The needles on the speedometer and tackometer occasionally bounce as I'm driving at a steady speed.
The radio will go into LOC mode for no apparent reason. This has been happening more frequently.
Some of these problems seem to be associated with damp or humid weather. I paged through some of the past threads and read about bad alternators and poor battery terminals causing similar problems. Any ideas or advice? I'm living in a new state now and so my new mechanic isn't familiar with my car's history. It would be nice to have a few directions to look. Thanks!

sort of sounds like bad alternator, or a bad belt tensioner. cant say for sure being an electrical gremlin, but those could be a main cause for most of your problems.
