I have a 98 saturn sl2 and it wont start after it's been driven for a while. It seems to start cold with no problems. Sometimes when I drive it for over 100 miles and shut the car off for a few minutes it will not start back up! The headlights, dash lights, tail lights and power windows work but the door locks, radio, and cigarette lighter will not work and I don't hear the fuel pump priming also there is not even an attempt for it to start. But once it sits for about an hour or so it will start up again. If I drive short distances it's not a problem. It seems to only happen when I drive for 100 miles or more without stopping! It happend to me only once when driving for 25 miles. For example: it did it once when I drove to Iowa (I live in chicago) then I drove home and nothing happend for 3 weeks then I drove to Michigan and it did it to me again. The alternator checked out fine, the alternator charges and the starter gets power, The battery is new and all fuses are good! Im at a total loss as of what this could be!

There is a fuel injection problem: EFI system needs to be scanned to find problem. Possibly a bad ECM or Coolant Temp Sensor.

so this wont happen once up to operating temperature, on short trips, and you go to restart it? it sort of sounds like a bad fuel pump. how much gas do you normally have in the tank when it happens? you fuel pump could be overheating and not responding till it cools back down.

That would not explain why my stereo, power locks, dome light, and cigarette lighter will not work. Until it sits for a while.

it is a intermittent open or loose connection in the wiring, where would only be a guess from my chair, and my guess is...ignition switch.

yeah the ignition switch too. because it definitely sounds like something overheating and shutting down.
