Stalling out

1998 ford windstar limited edition w/ 3.8l. It has started to stall out after you come to a stop and then attempt to begin moving again. It has only done it a couple of times but has me concerned for something major. No problems in starting or idle problems or while you are actually driving it doesnt seem to run rough at all. Any suggestions.

Not sure if its the same on a 98, but on my 2000 when it was doing that it was caused by the IAC. Removed it, cleaned it out good and it hasn't stalled since.

Hello

Does it stall out because the idle is too low (can you keep it from stalling by two footing it and keep a bit of pressure on the gas) or is it acting like a manual trannie and the engine is stalling like you forgot to push in the clutch? If it's the second one, your torque converter might not be coming out of lockup when you slow down. Try driving it without it being in overdrive. Does it happen then?

Regards

Dan
