I was up out of town for a bit doing some errands for work (not the fun part cause weekends are my time off) After taking some pictures of a house for some insurance purposes I get to a red lightand my g/f says to me "OHH look a charger."
I look and its a greyish-blue charger r/t. "It's just an R/T nothing major" I simply reply. I did not mean it in a cocky way just saying I like the SRT-8's alot more.. I had no intention of running it untill I remembered last night I said I wanted to see how I would do against one. I took a look at the driver and it was a guy not much older than 25 so I figured he'd want to run if I baited him.
I start rocking the car back and forth to show him I'm ready to launch the car, Guess it worked, cause as soon as the light went green he shot off. I chirped my tires as I went into 2nd and in third I passed him putting about 1/2 a car on him. Now I won, I know I won cause he wasnt gaining any ground as I shifted into 4th, but I had enough of messing with the guy and decided to pretty much demolish him. Flipping my switch on, which increased my boost from holding 9.5 to now holding 15 pounds, I was pushed back into my seat and put my lead from 1/2 a car to 3.
I now shifted into 5th and began to slow down, this guy was beat. Or so I thought. He went WOT again and matched my speed, I down shifted back into 4th (with my switch still on) and slammed on the gas. My boost peaked at 19 (used to be 17:naughty: ) and held back down to 15 where again I put 3 cars on him. I was done, I didnt want to shrink his ego anymore than I had so I merged infront of him to take my exit to the right.

In "stock mode" i'm expecting to do a 15.2 to 14.8 With the switch on max, I'm not doing the one in between cause it's really pointless since all it really does is spool much quicker and maybe 1 more pound of boost, I'm expecting somewhere between the low 14's to the mid 13's. Can't give you an exact estimate cause i saw a guy who had only this mod run a 13.6 and another who had this mod ran a 13.8. But either way I'm really curious about it.
oh and ls1 make sure you let us know when exactly maybe we can go to the tracks or something if your training allows it.

The R/T's have 340 HP. The extra 10 horses goes to the Charger Daytona and Charger R/T with road/track performance group..even still its just 10 horses, and to hear that they dyno at 260whp is dissapointing. DCX was definitely a bit too optimistic with the HP claims.
Car & Driver did test a Charger R/T with Road/Track performance group last year and it hit 60 mph in 5.6 seconds and did the 1/4 in 14.2 @ 101. That's pretty impressive for a car that weighs 4000+ lbs.

I'm sorry, did you say that you might pull a 15.2 and with your magic switch you could be as low as 13.6? Are you guys all believing that this guys super jetta is pulling GTO times just by switiching on his power boost? I know people that completly change the internals of an engine or add a turbo and they don't pull a 1.6 second better time down the quarter mile. BS has been called, back it up soon buddy...

Yeah I dunno about going from a 15.2 to a 13.6.... I'd think those cars would be much more popular if they could drop over a second and a half for about 10 bucks.....
But hey, if he can do it, more power to him!

OK, first off, he said
In "stock mode" i'm expecting to do a 15.2 to 14.8
I'm expecting somewhere between the low 14's to the mid 13's.
You took the 2 opposite ends of the spectrum on his post.
2ndly, this isn't NO2, this is a turbo. He has a dual setting boost control I'm guessing. Now he said he turned the boost up from 9.5psi to 15psi, and it spiked at 19. So he turned the boost up 5.5psi, not including the spike. If you estimate maybe 15-20hp per psi, that is 75-100hp. Explain to me why that increase in power couldn't take a second off his 1/4?
When I up my boost 3psi, I pick up a half second in the 1/4. And that is only upping the peak boost, because my stock turbos can't spool either 12 or 15psi to redline.
He is only giving guestimates based on other people's runs with similar mods. Obviously tuning, track conditions, launch technique and alot have to do with different 1/4 runs, so he gave his estimations in ranges.
Every car responds differently to mods. I've seen a stock ws6 run 13.5 and another flipping a switch for an exhaust cutout and running a 13 flat? Same year/make/model/day/track. One switch different. And that was an exhaust mod, not even boost.
What was the hard part to understand/believe?

well simply turning the boost up 5.5psi isnt the safest thing to do on the stocker.....but 5psi can drop a second off your e.ts no doubt.....doesnt your ecu try to fight your mod....have you checked your a/f ratio yet....seems to me like you would be running a little on the lean side.....

Depends on the car, and most importantly the fuel system. If your stock fuel system can handle that increase in boost, then I don't see why not. And if hte internals can handle it, then you should be good.
I don't really see how the ECU would really be all that much of a factor unless you had to upgrade the injectors, at which point fuel and timing control can/do come into play.

I have already explained my new mod about 2 or 3 times before, but I will do it once more. What I did was solder 2 diodes to my MAP sensor, Using a switch to alter between 3 modes, "Stock mode" "in between" and "Max mode."
Stock mode is the middle of my Switch, the "off" if you will. Having it on this setting puts everything back to my original settings. I'm not going to explain the 2nd switch "in between" because as I said it just spools my turbo faster. Musashi refers to it as "passing mode"
The Third Setting is when I flip my switch up. This makes my boost spike to 19 and steady out to 15 where it holds it till about 5k where it then goes to 14 to redline.
Now to explain how the mod works. The mod re-maps the ECU making the 2 new settings "passing mode" and "max mode" seem like it is like that stock. So when I flip the switch to increase the boost the ecu reads that and then adds the extra fuel needed to compensate because to the computer it thinks "I'm supposed to be boosting 19psi". And since we all know, well most of us any ways, that if the fuel isnt increased then that extra air is useless.
Now when I did this I peaked the 19 but held 12.5 as redline came, I didnt want that so I tightened up the wastegate 2 turns to hold the boost longer, I did some test and tuning little by little so I didnt do too much or not enough, I wanted to stop at 15 so thats what I got.
To sum it up, it's pretty much re-wiring the ecu, and no I dont have a manual boost controller

this mod your talking about sounds similar to one of the mods for my car....the mod for my car changes the voltage readings from the MAP to trick the pcm in allowing you to run more boost....cause on my car if I just raise the boost up the pcm would pull timing and try to lower it back down.....but even if you trick the pcm to run more boost you still have the fuel to worry about....so more air and stock fuel = lean city......but I guess your ecu is actually working with your mod pretty well.....

How well do your stock fuel injectors take spikes at 19lbs of boost if your V-Dub is built for a stock maximum of 9.5lbs? Honestly dude, if your miracle switch is working as nice as claimed...I'd be changing alot of the internals because doubling the boost (I know it's only at spike, 15lbs isn't much better) has got to be murder on pretty much every part of the motor. Tricking your computer, while efficient, maybe be the end of you down the road...

Well coming from a guy who probably doesnt know how the jettas are designed, i guess I should explain it to you. To clarify things, NO it is not built for a maximum of 9.5 pounds because if that was the case how come STOCK it peaks to 11? Unless your thinking or the 2001 and earlier where the boost peaks at 9.5. Also when my car came out the fuel injectors were also upgraded and made larger to make up for the larger turbo they had placed in the car. Now I dont think increasing my power to about 230-240WHP is putting much stress on my motor when the design can push up to 440WHP (500 at the fly) safely without changing the internals.
Also dont you think I researched this, I was on this day and night for a good while and I found that everyone who did it, (which is alot of people btw) have had it on their car for 2+ years now with no problms except the common problems found in every jetta and gti. Oh and I did not double the boost cause if I had I would be holding 20 right now since my car previously was holding 10.

I read what year you said.....don't know what to tell you except that the passat has about 25 less WHP than mine and 10pounds of torque less. also the passats 0-60 of 7.2 compared to my STOCK of 6.2 is a very big difference.

His is either the 02 or 03...it's listed at 170hp stock. 10hp less than the GTI of its year. His is a 5 speed, and it's a very balanced and fun car in the corners...but he's been with me racing a GTI of that year (you can tell by the rims and blackend taillights) and I only lost to one out of 4th gear pulling over 100+ mph. I blamed that race on the roomate who weighs 240...get out of my car next time, damnt! We've tracked both of our cars together and he pulled a 15.48...I remeber because we left him messages for a week because he thought he could break 14's. His is on the same motor as yours and VW says it's only tuned down 10hp from the GTI...I'm still hesitant on your Jetta. Also Car and Driver listed the 02 GTIs at a 6.5 0-60...where did you find a 6.2 for your jetta? Please race the GTO, for the love of god, please...

His is either the 02 or 03...it's listed at 170hp stock. 10hp less than the GTI of its year. Tuned down 10 at the crank, but at the wheels since it's not a sport set up like the jetta or the gti and more like the A4 it has about 25 less WHP when dynoed, so it should have about 145 WHP when compared to GTI's and 1.8t jettas that dyno at 170 stock, not to mention the gearing ratio is different between the cars aswell. The Turbo beetles for example have the same engine and have 180 HP but they get beat by the passats.

It does, you dont think so, that's your choice, but that's the way the car was designed, like the GTI

If Musashi lost he'd never hear the end of it.
I know some dude on another forum with a 2K+ GTI with the 1.8T engine in it. He thought that he'd run a 13 sec. pass for sure. I believe he had a turboback exhaust, CAI, and some type of chip in it. Apparently traction costed him alot. He had a horrible 2.5 sec. 60' and a high 14 sec. 1/4 mile in the low 90 mph range.
Dunno about getting 13's in that car Gotian. Not with that stock rubber on there. Maybe with some DR's and a tail wind :p
My guess is a 14.5 sec. 1/4 mile with a 2.3 sec. 60' time. Now stop lolligaggin and hit the track, with or without Musashi. I may know of a Buick Regal that you can race if you want to. He's lightly modded (I beat him before when he lived here in California)and would make a great run for your ride. He's a real cool guy.

right, the difference is 50 pounds, thats pretty much it. And i've taken plenty of GTI's and only lost to another jetta 1.8t before I installed this into my car, he was racing a stage 1 SRT-4 and I wanted to try my luck.

Slaps his forehead and retires to a slumber state...Good night gentlemen. Gotian, just track it. I have a piece of shit honda with an 'A' on the front so I can spend a little more money, and I have the paper to show a 14.93 stock (tires/clutch) and now intake. I might pull a 6.2 0-60 now...and I sure as shit can't put down 170 to the wheels, I can't master my ECU switch like you, and I don't go to sleep thinking that I can take on 400hp V8s while I ride on hub caps...In your world, I lose. I found that the chips are a bit overrated, The owners who had chips where complaining cause they were running the mid 14's and only got on average 210 whp.

When did I ever say I could beat a GTO? that was you guys saying that. And besides if musashi and I got into a real hardcore race that would be breaking one of our own codes of honor "there will be no competition within the team."

No, he lives in Florida. He use to live in California before. He moved up there for his job.
He has a Regal GS (Supercharged). I believe he has a catback exhaust, headers, a pulley, intercooler, and some tuning. He ran in the high 14's in California at a crappy track. I believe he has improved a little since then.

Guys Im still not to the 3000 mile mark yet and I still have a bit of casting dust in my engine so as soon as I hit 3k Ill change the oil and me and Gotian can hit the track and get you some vids and slips ok?
gimme like 2 or 3 more weeks and we will get it done.
yeah me and Gotian dont mind racing each other cause we're buds like that but we hold no competition between each other. I respect him totally and I dont think Im faster then him. In a straight line I might pull I might not but the fact is the real world is not all straight lines and in the Auto X and road courses he is the better driver. I dont mind if he outruns me cause hes like a brother to me and Im just glad we are on the same team. he is my wingman and all so its cool.
And if he did get me on the 1/4 mile youd think I care? hell no Id befreaking histericall with excitement that his 1.8t with his very own mods can whoop a GTO. Im not that competative guys! I got the GTO cause I love the car and It was dream machine for me, not because I want to be the fastest!
we already lost one friend over stupid speed rivalries......well I did anyways.

On a side note, anybody else think Mushashi's signature is a little over-dramatic? Especially since it was originally called a Holden Manaro? Sounds like a crappy way for a legacy to be reborn:frown:

Yeah, I just didn't like that he had 3 slow-ass cars. Didnt he have an LT1 Camaro, a PI Mustang GT, and an RT Charger?
I think his sig should sound something like this:

dont be silly. the Holden Monaro was inspired ny the original 60's GTO.......well actually no, it was the 69-72 model that inspired the Monaro.
See the Aussies picked up quickly in the late 60s with the Muscle car craze. For example the GBX and Falcons where dirrect chop-chops of our 70's Mustangs and Turinos.
Ever see Mad Max? the Interceptor is a shortened Turino with another name.....an Aussie version of our own.
We stopped building Muscle cars cause of the oil crissis in the late 70s but the Aussies never stopped. their big V8 rwd formula kept going and evolving. Now thier Muscle cars look way different but the formula is still the same. The Monaro was inspiered by the GTO. Thier is a GTO version called the HSV-GTO Monaro and thats where they got the idea to drop the HSV (Holden Special Vehicle) and just keep the GTO badge and import them. it may not be a dirrect decendent of the Goat but its close enough.
