my engine light recently came on and i was told its was for the map sensor and that was the only code that showed up. i replaced it and the light still comes on. is there a way to reset it or is there more to fix?

Its it 96 and up, you need the scan tool to clear the codes. If its 95 and older, just disconnect the battery for a minute or so.

BTW, just because the code interpretation mentions a component, doesn't alweays mean thats the component that is bad.

well i had a pro mechanic friend of mine chjeck it out and that was the only code he told me that showed up. he mentioned that it should just reset it self after a few days. its been at least 2-3 weeks. should i have it read again or just find some way of reset it? hell i could just reset it and see what happens. lol. what will pulling the battery cable off do? by the way its 94 SL1 SOHC. . . sorry

Sometimes some of the "pros" don't know enough about modern computer controlled cars. He should have known that disconnecting the battery would clear the codes. So, do that, disconnect the battery for a couple minutes, drive it for a couple days and see if the code comes back, if it does, the problem didn't get fixed.

Like I said, just because a code interpretation mentions a component, does NOT mean to replace that component.

It's easy to test a MAP sensor with a vacuum pump and volt meter. If your guy doesn't know how to do this, he's not as good as you think he is.

pull the code - http://www.differentracing.com/tech_articles/diag_info.html

if the MAP code is still there, check the vacuum line to the MAP sensor, and if you have the tools and skills, backprobe the sensor and check the signal with a DMM or a osilioscope. wiring can also be at fault

LOL, I WISH I had an oscilloscope! They're just fun to play around with.
