3 potenial problems

fuel gage bounces, knocking noise in rear of vehicle and temperature fluciation, any ideas?

possibly the fuel sending unit.
be more discriptive, knocking noises when you are barking, or accelterating, or turning, or hitting bumps, or all the time?
temp flucuates by going too high? or too low? when in trafic or at a stop?
Just a little bit more info would help. year/model/engine size

2002 impala 3.4 hitting bumps for the noise, too high temp both stop and traffic

also the coolant level is fine. the overflow is high though. i thought it might be the temp sending unit. thanks for your help!

what is the tamp at that youconsider it high? above half, near the red, figure out what it is at by using the numbers on the gauge. normal operating temp is around 190 - 200. May just need to get a new thermostat, I suggest a 180 degree stat, it will help keep temps down.
Aslo, can you look under the front of your car, right underneath the radiator, and see a black air dam? it is often what you hear scraping the ground when you pull into driveways or go over buumps, because it sits so low, but it helps A LOT with keeping tems down as well, I had mine ripped off, and I was experiencing higher temps than I wanted, and I got a new air dam and it helped keep my engine a LOT cooler.
Not many common problems with the suspension on the Impala's, so that might be a hard one, you may have to take it to a shop and let them diagnois it in person, it's a little hard to do over the net. Did you get bigger rims?

no it has the stock rims on it. i think it might be the spare tire in the trunk rattling. yeah my air dam is still there. i looked around the temp sensor and i could see alittle antifreeze. so i'm thinking its probly that is probly going bad.the temp usually goes just over half on the guage. it looks like if i have to change the stat that it might be somewhat tricky. thanks for your help man!

yeah, the stat is cheap, but on the 3.4 it can be very ticky and touch, which is why i'm glad I have the 3.8.
But I can talk to someone I know who has the 3.4(had since they dropping in a L67) but i'll see if they have a how-to or just some pointers for you. But if the gauge is only going a little bit over half way, that is right around normla operating temp, so if you think that is running "hot", then your like me and you want to get a 180 degree stat, it helps quite a bit.
