:banghead: hey all, whats up? i was just wondering what the diference between the sc1 and the sc2 is. i own a 2001 sc1 and i am trying to find performance parts but the only parts that can find are for the sc2. i have not been able to find any information...

The SC1 has a single over head cam (SOHC) and the SC2 has a dual over head cam (DOHC). The SOHC has 2 valves per cylinder and the DOHC has 4. The DOHC can breath better and has a higher redline of somewhere around 6500 where the SOHC only goes to about 5500.

sohc have painted trunk panel, dohc have a "reflective" panel. dohc come with a rear sway bar, and i cant remember the rest.

i do have to say though, its not worth modding the sohc. either just use it as a daily driver or do a dohc swap with mp3 trans(dohc manual trans). the dohc swap is the best bang for the buck, since bolt ons dont do much for the saturns (exhaust manifold is one of the best bolt ons for it). the car was made pretty well, althoug ugly looking stock parts, but bolt ons dont add much of anything. its no honda where anything will add something but still be slow:lol: . putting on an apex'i safc tends to show the best power increase. saturns just really need a air/fuel tune to make more power. the bolt ons just help it breathe easier, and opening the exhaust just right can allow for a good low end and scream up high.

the greatest thing on them though is BOOST! put oh 6psi to it, makes a world of difference. unbelievable what can happen. you can smoke quite a bit on the road on low psi, while other boosted vehicles still have troubles keeping up, no lie.

also if you got an auto, then its really not worth modding. it can handle just so much before the clutch packs slip (not much power needed to do so, under 200hp). and the differentials tend to blow out, but thats if you spin the wheels too much (where tires are sticking pretty well, snow doesnt count or a very slick wet pavement). its not exactly because of wheel spin, but more of the torque being biased between the wheels since its an open differential meaning which ever wheel has less traction gets more power, and if you are spinning, going through corner on the gas hard (kind of going back and fourth), just certain situations the differential spider gears are going to get a workout from putting the power to the wheels and getting these "shocks" telling a wheel is getting less traction and shots power that way and does this quite often in situations.

not to scare you or anything, i just try to give the knowledge so you dont go and blow your trans trying to show off in front of friends. just really lay off burnouts if you do them! or tear the trans apart and get the differential welded. i have a write up on how to pull the trans and another guy had already done a write up on disassembly of the trans, pretty simple. but still dont be scared that just driving down the road its going to blow, its happened but because it was abused in some way. just to give an example, my car has 160K on it and i did weld the diff recently yet it hadnt moved at all, a guy with well over 700K (YES 700,000 miles!!!!!) has had no issues with his and he plans to make world record for most mileage. and then theres guys who have had around 40K and blew the trans, it just all depends on how its treated and i abuse my car pretty bad, but dont do wheel spin.

i have no idea why i went so far in depth in everything, but hope any of it helps, although doesnt directly to your question
