jump start smoke

My car as set for a month, while I was out of town. When I had someone jump start it. They connected the cables to my dead car and then to her's. When the cables hit her car smoke came from my car , but not the battery?
It started up and is running. I wonder what was it that smoked and where could I take it to find out if something was damaged?
