Ok guys, quick question. My wife has a 2000 sl2. She dropped the car off to get the oil changed while she was at work. They gave her a call and said that they had broken the oil plug. They said that with this car the drain plug itself is not threaded but there is a bolt on the inside of the oilpan welded to it. Apparently, they said that the weld holding the bolt on just broke off. She told me they would fix it for not charge because they broke it, so I don't think it is somebody scamming her, but I have never heard of a bolt inside the oil pan. They said they will just drop the oil pan and re-weld the plug threads. Any ideas. I would go check it out but I can't leave work today until 5 and it's 2 hours away. I have changed her oil, but it's been ages and I can't remember what it looked like under there.

That doesn't sound right, call a dealer, any saturn dealer, for a quick answer.

i know what they mean, and thats a poor discription of it (but then again i would show you the pan to explain it)

let me try..... the oil pan walls arn't very thick(i think its stamped steel)and you want a certain threaded depth for a good seal and for strength, so they weld in a bung, which is not a bolt, it more of a round nut. simular to the bungs welded to headers to mount O2 sensors.

ok, thanks for the info. When we get it back I'll have to take a look. I was not too worried since they said they would pay for it. Said it wouldn't be too hard, just drop the pan, clean it up and weld it back. As long as they clean it up good afterwards, I don't see a problem. I would hate to think what would happen if they left metal shavings in there, but hopefully they are not that stupid. Thanks again.
