Thinking of putting an intake

Hey everyone:
I just bought a 1995 Mercury Sable from my friend, and it's a pretty sweet car. He already pimped it out by putting a nice tint on the back windows, nice decals, and interior and exterior green lights. Anyways...he purchased an air intake several months ago, and he took it off, because there was a hole that screwed up the transmission. He said that if we fill that hole gap, it will work without hurting the transmission or anything. Anyways...I know that this air intake can provide more horsepower, but...at the same time, will you gain more MPG, because you get more air flow? I'm not asking much more. And if not, will it at least be the same, or will you lose MPG? Thanks for any help you can give me!!

it depends how you drive. If you actually use the extra power than yes you will get worse gas mileage, if you drive the same then you'll get the same power, but then what's the point of the intake?
I'd have to see what hole he's talking about. It's probably related to the PCV system which you don't want to mess with. Intakes aren't made for the taurus or sable, so this intake has to be one that was made for another car that he adapted to almost work on his car.
