I am having a Bunch of problems with this car I love it it ran great when I first got it in 04' but now here is the list of problems I would greatly appreciate any input other than trashing it! :)
1. Engine Shakes(replaced 2 motor mounts is there a third?)
2. oil on 2 of 4 sparkplugs(from right-2 and 4)
3. cant accelerate over 55-60MPH on an incline and just problems accelerating.
4. due to the way the spark plugs look I either have bad valve seals head gasket or something else(INPUT!)
5. Idles real low when Fan kicks on and belt starts to squeal like a pig giving birth!
Any input on these issues would be greatly appreciated. i have read back some way in the forum and seen a few that match my problems but would like to see if anyone have an easier way than spending 200 -300 rplacing valve seals that aren't bad.
thanks

engine vibration-which mounts have you changed? and the engine will vibrate a bit, its a saturn.
oil in plug wells-valve cover gasket needs replaced. this could also be causing other problems with spark plugs fouling.
acceleration issues-can be several things. do the other things first, and see if it fixes it. if not then we can help from there.
spark plugs-what do they look like? if sooty black, then your ects is bad and probably piston rings are letting more oil past. if like white, then your head is most likely cracked. common on sohc, have you been losing coolant? if the plugs look gray/brown ground electrode and a bit brown on the insulator with black ring around the insulator on the body, then the plug is fine and the temperature range is correct and the cylinders been good.
fan-now about the squeal, are you sure its the belt? if so it could just be a bad belt, soiled belt (oil), or the tensioner could be bad. alternator could also be, but probably not.
now about the valve seals, dont worry about that right now till these otehr things are lined out. it is most likely your piston rings if anything letting the oil past if thats an issue. yes the valve seals do tend to wear out on these cars, but most oil issues are the piston rings. if its the valve seals, its normally the exhaust side, so it doesnt burn the oil but oil gets into the exhaust making it smoke like white or black i cant remember right now:lol: , thinhking too much

ok I have replaced(looking at the engine with hood open)
the top left and the one on the bottom right.
Spark plugs had oil on them
and no coolant(speaking of its time to change that b cuz it is the same coolant that was in it when I bought it
oh and yes it smokes like a jamaican getting high in the summer, kind of greyish black.

ok my suggestion is a piston soak (ill find my post so i wont have to type it again), replace the coolant sensor with a brass tipped one from SATURN (and most likely the connector for it), replace spark plugs (try ac delco rapidfire, worked the best out of 7 different plugs for me). how old are the wires? also replace the pcv with a SATURN pcv, no auto parts one. clean the throttle body with carb n choke.
id go for those things out of everything. and yes there are more mounts, a lower passenger side dogbone, and a lower trans mount (small). i take it you replaced the upper trans dogbone. but most vibrations come from the passenger side top engine mount.
here is the piston soak how to..........
what you can do is a piston soak with marvel mystery oil or gm tec or even seafoam. i prefer one of the first 2. all you do is pour it into the cylinder, most do it while engine is still warm not hot, put the spark plug back in and let it set for at least 12 hours. now all you really need to do is pour enough in so it can completely cover the piston. you can add more if you dont want to keep checking to make sure its full, but then you will need to crank it with the fuel pump disabled and ignition module disconnected(below coils) and spark plugs out to pump left over fluid out. its best to do this near an oil change.
now its up to you how much you want to put in. i normally just put enough in to cover the pistons and lasts almost 12 hours, while you might want to add more so you dont have to constantly pull the plugs and make sure there is still fluid in there. but the thing is with the sohc, you have dished pistons, so fluid will settle down into the dish and not get to the rings, so its probably better to add more.
