buy one of thoes "superchargers" or "turbos" off ebay, they are fans that run off the battery and go on the intake pipe.

cmon, what would be wrong with that idea? i have thought about the electric turbo before and it doesnt sound hard to make. it may not give very much psi from a really cheap vacuum cleaner, but if you have an orek dont they say on the commercials that it sucks @ like 20psi?? if that IS the case and the fat man isnt lying then it would be a killer performance upgrade. actually i highly doubt it would make that much psi but if you can produce anything over 4 psi it would definitely change over some hp. iv seen the ones online and im curious as to if anyone has ever tried them and if so what happened? i dont know anybody that would try it. they all think im crazy too.. try it out, you never know. they may stop laughing when your hitting 180hp from an old vacuum cleaner and some duct tape... and a ac/dc converter and appropriate wiring, and a variable switch connected to the throttle cable. see, thats why i havent tried it yet. i dont have the patience. l8r

it isnt just putting air in, they have compressors that compress the air to fit more, if it was just blowing air, running a tube to the tb and doing 100mph would create quit a bit of boost i would imagine

i was just kidding about the whole deal. well you never know till you try but we all know it would take so much money in r&d and time that you might as well go out and buy a damn turbo kit. BUT as far as the 2.3l they were only used on 1995 z24's and the 95 sunfires the rest are 2.4l.

This idea is almost as dumb as those Turbonator pieces of $hit. As stated earlier in the thread a turbo doesn't just blow air into the engine, it compresses it into the engine. Which makes more compression and more HP, an electric motor ain't gonna do anything like that...

IF that actually worked you would see orecks hanging out of every Chevy's hood. Or chevy would be Oreck out.
If it really worked (if at all), and it was that cheap, the manufacturers would have one on every one of their vehicles.

does anyone actually have a turboed camaro on this camaro forum?
i just want to know because i personally think it would stomp the shit out of anything, honestly. ive seen one at the track before that was a DD and it ran high 11's to mid 12's consistantly, with street radials.
i have infinite knowledge on turbo parts, or what you would need to turbo a vehicle since i have already done so, if anyone needs help doing it, just pm me sometime, i think a turboed camaro would be bad ass.

It was also pointed out that both the cars had stock air boxs. The leaf blower didn't give them any more then a good CAI would. That was pointed out by 89Iroc&RS.

id rather do what my friend did to his 90 pontiac gran prix
Took his grandmother's o2 tank and ran a straight line into his intake manifold....it backfired out of the intake, rev'd to about 5k rpm and filled the street with white smoke.....that car took so much abuse it was unreal. Off road use, taking jumps off of 6 ft piles of mulch. He had a bean can on it but took it off and took flex pipe and ran it straight out the side of the car off of the y-pipe. He also cut a hole in his hood and made a box like scoop out of plexiglass and used double sided tape to mount it. Only reason it stopped was that he only put water instead of coolant and everything started to corroad.
I love my friends....

A lot to point out:
Did anyone else notice the second guy, z24 said "hitting 180hp" and every single car on here...hopefully makes more than 200hp, well how much do the 3.8 v6s make?
We can't classify a leaf blower or shopvac as a turbo since it doesn't create boost in the first place, so we can't even call it a makeshift turbo. It just blows. The upside, no turbo lag, ...a blower....why does that sound familiar....
IMHO don't like those rear mounted turbos, what's the real problem with installing a turbo in the engine bay? And that Pic PWNED!!!!111

but if you have an orek dont they say on the commercials that it sucks @ like 20psi??
Vacuum is measured in inches of mercury so i think that would be 20"hg not 20psi. i doubt that even the most serious vacuum cleaners would develop much more than a couple of psi.
the other consideration is airflow [cfm] , no point in a 20psi compressor if it can only pump 20cfm [eg], you need to move about 400cfm for even a modest engine

all the leaf blower does is a rube golberg of forced air induction....... granted, it will put more air into the cylinders, but there is only so much uncompressed air the engine can handle..... the turbo uses compression to fit more oxygen into the same amount of space as uncompressed air. you're looking for more oxygen, not just air.........
