I know very little about automobiles. On Thursday morning a little red circled light flashed on my dash. It didn't come on anymore that day. On Friday it came on again just before I backed out of my yard and again when I left work. On Saturday, I had a tension belt put on and had the air filter changed.
The light came on again about 30 minutes later as I was driving. It keeps coming on now when I depart and also while I'm driving. It only stayes on for a few seconds. What can I do?

Check your owner's manual to determine which light is on. As far as I know the only red one is for the brakes. This could be due to the parking brake not fully releasing or the brake fluid level could be low. It could also indicate a malfunction in the brake system such as an imbalance in the 2 systems.
If it is the Red brake light I would consider it to be important and you should get it looked at right away.

I looked and the red light has a circle around it and an exclamation point (!) in the center if that helps. What could it be? I don't have a manual.

It is something with the brake system. Take a look if your parking brake handle it is not pulled just a little bit; this could bring the light on and off.
But first of all and this is a matter of safety, check or ask someone to check the brake fluid in the master cylinder to see if there is enough fluid. If not. it could be possible that some air entered in the hydraulic brake system which
will require to bleed the system. And this could also bring your brake light
on and off. Anyway if the fluid is low add brake fluid ( DOT 3 ) to your master cylinder.

Ditto!!!
The red light with the exclamation point is the brake system. As was mentioned it could be something simple such as the parking brake ever so slightly "on" or the fluid low.
