i went to dmv and they couldnt find the VIN number on my car. well, they saw the one on the front dashboard, but they couldnt find any others. my car is salvalged and the door VIN did not match the dashboard VIN. They said they need to know where the other (non-sticker) VIN location is. They found one on my hood and trunk but they were stickers. i got a SC2 saturn 2000

on the engine is a parcial vin - http://www.saturnfans.com/photos/showphoto.php/photo/14674/ but i'm not 100% sure how to decode it.
VINs are also hidden inside some body panels, normally the front and rear bumpers, but sometimes the fenders too. but if its salvaged, they may have been replaced. they are typicialy stickers
i know of no other locations, call your local dealership and ask.

if your car is salvaged, your suppose to have a record of all parts that came off other cars (if so bought). if you have the original parts on it then thats all needed. if aftermarket parts, have details of where it was bought and have receits of everything.
ive built a salvage car, i know what goes on. but why are you at the dmv and they are checking vins? the highway patrol are the ones that are suppose to check that everything is legal. but most of the vins are hard to come by unless you disassemble the car.
also did you build the car, or did someone else? and is this the first time its going to registered after being salvaged?

i bought the car off of another guy who recieved the car from an auto body shop. He does not know exactly what was replaced. i dont have any receipts of the items that were replaced and i dont think i could get a hold of the receipts. i only have the state of california salvage certificate, the dmv car tranfer forms, smog forms and brake inspection forms. i have nothing that says what was salvaged but im guessing the drivers side was the side that was hit cause the door does not match.

well then you are going to have to get ahold of the guy you bought it off of and/or that body shop and let the dmv deal with them or something.
