92 + boost = no no ?

i have heard to stay away form runnign a turbo kit on my 92 sl2 5 speed but i am wondering why this is ?
there was somethign being said about my crankshaft?
could i just switch the crank from the 92 to a 97 or so ? some one was saying they did this to there car on differntracing.com , but i thought i cant swap cranks? what woudl i have to do to get my car to accept it ?
if i am going to pull the crank and switch it my friend has offerd to lend me a hand and let me use his cherry picker and engine stand.
if none of that works i lightly browsed a swap section on turbosaturns.net about motor swaps and i belive they said i can put a 95 + in my car if so what mods would be needed to do this?
can i just drop it in with sll the stock parts and expect it to bolt up ?

I'm not sure about the turbo issue, but I do know that swapping in a later motor would be difficult since the engine wiring and PCM need to be installed for that later engine.

ok i could prolly take time out for the wiring and all but would the motor bolt right in using the 92 tranny same motor mounts and other items from the 92 or would i have to try to make quite a few custom parts for this ?

I'm pretty sure there are no bolt-up issues. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

ya they should bolt up with out a problem. where did you hear about not turdboing a 92? theres plenty of people on tsn who have

well you could swap cranks, but then you would have to get a crank sensor and a new pcm, so thats why they say stay away from the 91-92 motors, plus they just arent as good. a newer motor will bolt up, but you have to remember things do change. your year, you had 2 coolant sensors, one for the gauge and one for the pcm. 96+ only had 1. intakes changed in 99 but and older intake will still bolt up, but the exhaust manifold changed from a 5 bolt to a 9 bolt set up. the heads arent as good on the newer ones, 98 and back are best to stick with. new blocks, 99+, are the best to go with as they are a bit stronger. if not going with upgraded internals, 93 had a larger top ring landing so its a better piston to use.

now guys do boost on the old engines. are you planning on rebuilding it? what kind of management system are you going to use? bigger injectors or use extra injectors?

ALSO!!!!!!!!! 91-92 had different mounts for the engine!!!!!!!!

right now i wouldnt be planing on rebuilding it till it blows or i save up some money for that. I would be gettign bigger injectors(size i am not sure yet i need to look into it ). engine managemnt would be a magasquirt stand alone.

have you done a compression check on it and make sure everything seems good before boosting the engine? this is where you will blow the engine as soon as you start.

if you know how to use the megasquirt, then it will be very good ALSO, get a wideband o2 to help the tuning and not blow up the engine. a wideband is a tuners best friend. the car should last a good long time on low boost as long as everything checks out fine before boosting it and keep on those piston rings.
