camshaft position sensor

I have a 2001 sc1. the service engine light has been coming on. I had the code checked at Autozone and it read P0341, camshaft position sensor. I called the saturn dealer and the man said there is no such thing. He told me when that code comes up they do the following: 1) Switch the position of the coils where they plug into the module. 2) replace the plugs, 3) replace the wires. Does this sound like the correct fix. Please advise

that is correct. the vehicle does not have a cam position sensor. I would check the gap on the plugs, spark plug wires etc. If the problem is not corrected by that, you will need to replace the ignition module.

yes there is no cam sensor. it has a cam sync generator, in with the ignition module. the code is thrown because of a misfire/high resistance. normally just replacing wires/plugs fixes it. if not then possibly a coil or the coil terminals, the 2 metal prongs that the coil goes onto, are corroded or even the ignition module itself. the code can also be thrown without there even being a problem at all, its just that sensitive. if the code constantly gets thrown, with all new items, then its down to making sure longest wire has highest resistance and match the plug with the lowest resistance with the highest resistant wire and match them as they go.

also check to make sure there isnt oil down in the plug hole. if there is, valve cover gasket is bad.

The SC1 may not have one but the SC2 does. It is located underneath the intake manifold on the back of the engine. I have been getting the same signal. All that it is is a magnet that reads when the shaft swings past. I had the code come up a few times, all that I did was change the oil and it never came back.

i have no idea where you got that from. no s-series saturn has a cam sensor. they have a cam syne generator built into the ignition module. now it sort of sounds like your talking about a crank position sensor. all s-series have a crank position sensor. 91-92 use a different one as with a different trigger on the crank.
