 Midwest represent! Anyone interested please PM me, these tracks might want to know how many we are expecting. I'll post a list of tracks, estimated prices, and locations as soon as I get all that information. I'm thinking some time in late june or early july (after the 4th). What do you guys think? Also we obviously need a 1/4 miles track, but what do you guys think about having street courses? Its going to cost more and probably a little more travel, but thoughts would be good.

Actually xavier, I'm a step or two ahead of you ;).

Well, I have emailed 3 tracks and I found rental prices for one for 4 total so far. The one I have prices for is in extreme west Iowa and is pretty expensive. The other three are located in Cedar Falls (northeast Iowa), Earlville Iowa (maybe 50-70 miles east of Cedar Falls), and Eau Claire Wisconsin. I'm thinking Eau Claire will be best for all, but Cedar Falls would maybe be cheapest. I dont know, we'll see which is cheaper. It might cost quite some money, the track in west Iowa was 3-5.5 grand per day depending on what day of the week, but that was for a street course too. I'm thinking we'll hit some people (maybe AF, SBR, tuners etc) up for some sponsorships.

xavier3jr
02-14-2006, 12:36 AM
yea thats gana be pritty hard to come up with unless we can get ALOT of people to come.

What about the track in Brainered? Anyway I'm in, it just depends on when it goes down because I tend to be gone alot during the summer unless I can plan ahead

gthompson97
02-14-2006, 05:45 PM
I'd go to the track in Brainerd on any given weekend, that's only like a 4-4.5 hour trip for me, only 1 hour less than my weekly summer lake trip.

Eau Claire is where I race. The track is called Rockfalls Raceway. Its an alright place to go but the track can be pretty slippery. I'd be in for either there or Cedar Falls. I go there quite a bit to, they have a better prepped track.

Count me in. We should have a contest... Fastest car, Nicest car, Race for money/parts. Some friends and I use to race for parts. Basically racing for money but not illegal. When you lose, you buy the other person the part you raced for. :D

 BIR is a little far for the Chicago guys, I was trying to keep it reachable for them. Right now I am hoping for an answer from Cedar Falls and Eau Claire. Any one have any ideas on how much it costs? Maybe tonight I will contact some parts places (SBR, FP, etc), websites (AF, dsm talk, tuners), and magazines about sponsorships/reps going to the meet. If it costs us $5000 for a track per day and we get 100 people, thats $50 a person which is a tad high IMO. Keeping this inexpensive would be to our advantage plus it will probably help our sponsors out a little. I made a thread about it on tuners and I am going to dsmtalk now. Keep the comments rolling guys.

xavier3jr

i would really like it to be only DSMs but bring ur friends w/e, the more the better i guess

Thor06
02-14-2006, 08:27 PM
No way man. I'm thinking only DSM's. A spo-com wide event would attract a lot of other people and I think too many people. Plus it would be kinda fun to be surrounded by only DSMer's. If something breaks, everyone will be able to help and chances are a lot greater that you will be able to pick up some spare parts/ new parts. Plus a bunch of ignorant domestic guys and ricer hondas would scare off some of the DSM people that the meet is there for in the first place. Hmmm, I wonder if Brent Rau is still in MN and if he'd come.... :naughty:. What would you guys think about some media there? We'll see how the track people respond, how many we think will go, and if a sponsorship happens. If we can get some big names there, some fast ass cars, lots of low timeslipes, and a bunch of vendors we can maybe get an article in super street, import tuner, or modified. I dont know though, we'll see how it falls together.

xavier3jr
02-14-2006, 08:36 PM
some media would be nice if we could get this big enuff. i really hope we can get atleast one sponsor.

02-14-2006, 08:38 PM
No... Brent Rau is not in MN anymore. I havent seen him in a while since he is with Buschur now and in Pro class. We all use to race at Rockfalls. Man them were the good ol days, I miss it. Good times. There use to be atleast a dozen DSMs that would run 11s-12s all day long at the track. If someone would break, everyone helped get the car back together so he could race again. Back then there was only like a hand full of hondas and shit, now its 100 hondas and like 3 DSMs and they arent even quick. Its sad.

xavier3jr
02-14-2006, 08:50 PM
OK guys VERY good new :grinyes:. I talked to Jake a little bit ago and he would like to come also! he says he can get a good deal on dyno tuning and rent the dyno all day if needed. It's about an hour south of Eau Clair, he said we could all camp out and party at the campground near the river he says theres PLENTY of room for ALL of us. He said hes about 3 hours north of Ceder Falls. He's located in in Winona,MN. Let us have some feed back on this. We could party all day Friday and Friday night, Then get up Saturday morning let everyone get dyno tuned. Chill for the rest of the day get some food then get up early sunday and hit the track all day.

Thor06
02-14-2006, 08:57 PM
Sweet, but lets take it one punch at a time. I think that Friday to Sunday is too long, plus getting a track on a weekend is not going to be easy or cheap. If for some reason we do get a weekend that we can get it for a day, it will probably cost twice as much as a weekday. Also, a 100+ people on one dyno wouldnt be fun.

xavier3jr
02-14-2006, 09:00 PM
Well maybe not on a weekend but I'm just saying it could be done as a 3 day thing. And just whoever wants to be dyno tuned can go for it. If they wanna wait for it, its there choice. Its just a chance to get your car professionally tuned so you know its right, and so see the maximum output your car can get with the mods you have.

Thor06
02-15-2006, 09:02 PM
Yeah, I just dont want to lose the DSM-ness of the meet. I dont care if we get a couple non DSM's there, just not every fuckin riced out Honda and meathead domestic guy in the midwest. You've got a DSM anyway, so its ok.

EDIT #1 - I too am getting excited, still no word from any of the tracks, I'll call them tomorrow. I have a feeling that it wont be the 100+ car meet that I thought it would be, but I dont think 25 is out of the question. If we get less than like 50, renting a track for a day is going to cost quite a bit. Say its $3000 at 50 people thats $60 a person. So for 30 people its $120. How much would you guys be willing to pay? $25? $30? $50? I'm aiming for $30, I think thats pretty reasonable, but we need some people to go. Talk to you local DSM friends guys!!!

EDIT #2 - In response to whoever said I need mine by then, I might have one on Monday. Its a maroon 92 with no engine, tranny or t case but has the driveshaft and 4 bolt rear. Other than that, its complete. I just need a truck to go get it with. It does have some damage, the hood, pass fender, and pass headlight are all f 'ed but the car is only $250. I will get try to get some good deals on a the body and power/drive train and I will chip away at it from next week until its done. I'm happy :).

02-15-2006, 09:04 PM

02-15-2006, 09:22 PM
Well I was thinking of posting something on the southern minnesota forum(www.fivezeroseven.com) and seeing who all would be interestes. Most of the members have decient cars such as a wrx a hand full of boosted neons boosted hondas and cars of that nature. I just figured the more people we can get to come the less we will all have to pay and the more likely we will get this to happen. In a perfect world we would have 200+ dsms coming but I think if the plan is to try and have it this summer the word wont travle fast enough to get everybody, but if we decide to make it a yearly thing or even a few times a year the news will spread and who knows, we might end up with the biggest gathering of dsm/sport compact cars in the mid west :)

Thor06
02-15-2006, 09:41 PM
Yeah that would be cool, not sure if I am up for that much organizing though ;). I dont know... we should see how many DSM's we can get first. All the other cars would kinda take away from the purpose of the meet... DSMs. We would be surrounded by DSM parts, knowledge, support, and DSM love. More than a couple guys with Hondas and muscle cars can lead to some misinformation (ever listen to a Honda guy :screwy:), create tension, and actually drive away some of the DSMs we are trying to attract. Lets see how much tracks cost and possible DSMers before we open this up more.

xavier are you even in the midwest?

If we can get a track closer to chicago I could probably get a bunch of chi-dsm people to come, the last meet near chicago had 50+ cars. That would bring the price down a bit!! I'll give some tracks calls and see how much it would cost. There's also a shop near here called automotosports (automotosports.com) i could see if they would sponsor us, plus they have an awd dyno. Let me know what you guys think about traveling a south a little.

Thor, that was me that said it, glad t hear you're getting a dsm!

Thor06
02-16-2006, 12:13 AM
Well, I wanted to make it easy for ND, SD, IA, MN, WI, upper penninsula, and you chicago guys to go to. Also, I cant go very much farther away. Like my future DSM, my parents wont probably know about this. A bunch of my friends and I are planning a road trip, probably to the Wisoconsin Dells (depending on how far it is) or just to the twin cities for a couple days/nights. This will get shoehorned into there somewhere. dsmstyle.com is all MN, IA, and WI people as soon as I allowed to post there I will hit them up. I just checked, Chicago to Eau Claire is 5 hrs 15 min by mapquest time, i'm sure you can make it in closer to 4:30 or 4:45. Its 6:15 from here, but we can probably do 'er in 5:30 or so. Especially driving DSMs :grinyes:. I'm hoping be in between the twin cities and chicago we can get a bunch from each, plus we can probably get all the local DSMers out of Eau Claire. Spread the word guys, and tell me how many you think are interested!

MexRocket
02-16-2006, 12:18 AM
In order to spread the word, I need to know a time table, a very rough one is fine, most people don't do this with less than a month or two notice.

Thor06
02-16-2006, 12:34 AM
Late June or early July (not over or close to the 4th) in Eau Claire Wisconsin are my tenative plans.

I'll call the track tomorrow to see what prices will be. Once we can tell what its going to cost and a rough idea about how many people will be there, we can start to say how much money this will cost. Also, we might need to sorta rent a parking lot to have the swap meet/car show in so that might throw us a curve ball. 15-20 cars in the corner of a parking lot wont be a big deal most likely, but 200 will be. School wont be in session, we could maybe hit up some of that shit. Would registering before hand be a good idea? If its a little meet, it wont be a big deal to bring 10 cars into the track. However, with 30 of us it renting the whole track will be expensive as hell and 30 of us plus the other track goers would be too busy. I cant front money for the track myself, so I will need money up front. What do you guys think about that?

We should get a track before we get a bunch of sponsors and places to sleep. Rock falls hasnt gotten back to me and when I called them, no one answered. The Tristate one in Iowa got back to me, but not with a price. He just said he would be willing to do it for us, asked about how fast most of us would be running and said he would get back to us with a price. I'm digging the camping idea, that would be lots of fun. Also, I was thinking about talking to a Super 8 or something and seeing if they could give DSMers a discount for going to their hotel. Kinda like a group discount. I figured I would hit SBR, FP, DSMotorsports, turbochargers.com (good call MexRocket), maybe Mach V, and any other shops/distrubutors on tuners and a bunch of the car magazines like Super Street, Modified, Import Tuner, Perf Auto and Sound, etc for sponsorships, to see if they would want to send reps to the meet, or to see if they would do an article on us. Lets wait on that though guys, they will want to know when and where, so far we have neither ;). Man this is going to kick ass, I just hope I have a DSM by then!

Hey guys just got an update. I heard back from the Iowa track. They said we should just come in on a test and tune day. I am having mixed feelings about that. For one there will be a set price and I wouldnt have to worry about charging too much and having shit loads of cash after or charging too little and needing to come up with lots more money. Also, there would be other cars for us to embarass ;). The down side to coming in on a day when other people are there is that we will have to wait lots more. Another upside though is that test and tunes are usually on the weekends so we could get more people there because they wont have to take off work. What do you guys think? He said if we still wanted to actually rent it out, it would be $2500. Obviously that track in Iowa isnt our first choice, but that will probably be a pretty close estimate for anywhere else. Also, having it in the morning/day of a test and tune day will open up the late afternoon/night for partying, car show, and cruising. Sound good? Thoughts, ideas, and opinions please!
