My wife has a 2000 Impala. Went to start earlier today and the key would not turn. Checked gear shifter (in park), different keys, and no matter what I tried, the key will not turn. I am now removing the cylinder, but it is my understanding that you need the key in the run position to remove the cylinder. Help???
Thanks,
Mike

i've ripped apart the dash before and it loks like there is only one bolt holding it in. I may be wrong though i've never removed it, but if the key needed to be in the run position that would be pretty stupid cause what do you do if something like this happens, and cant use the key

take the key out.
Spray some WD-40 in the lock.
Move the key in and out several times
and insert the KEY hard the last time.
Wiggle the key and try to turn it. If not tap the key in the ignition WHILE
turning the key. Should break free.
Good luck
