I have a 1999 Windstar 3.8. If you are looking at the motor there is a small silver box on the left side on top with two push/pull rods coming out the front and back. What is it???? I have a mis fire on the #2 cylinder which I believe is on the left front. Could this be the problem?:screwy::banghead:

Hi
I think you may be talking about the IMRC (intake manifold runner control I believe)? You will find many posts on the operation of those if you do a search here. You should see a similar part on the rear bank and they are vacuum controled.
As to your #2 cylinder I believe you will find it to be the rear middle. Here is a link to the autozone info for '99.

As to your misfire, there are several threads that have been active lately on misfire. I am dealing with intermittant misfire on 3 & 5 on my '96 w/3.8L. Typical solutions are spark plugs/wires, coil packs, injectors and clogged EGR ports. Take a look through the older posts to see a lot of discussion on the subject.
Good Luck with the problem.
