97 cherokee sport - stalls turning left

My 1997 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0L stalls turning left below 1/4 tank of fuel. My mechanic removed the fuel tank, checked the fuel pump and cup(?), and said everything is in working order. I have driven nearly 100 km before refueling; there is enough fuel. If I shift to neutral on the fly, I can restart the engine, shift back to drive, and continue driving.

Any ideas?

it could be anything like a throttle position sensor or an idle air control it just may need a reflash of the computer
